Warrior Country leaders host the Area I Command Information Exchange at Camp Casey's Warriors Club July 28. These quarterly meetings have replaced the traditional town hall that tended to brief what services are provided by the garrison while the CIE format is designed to address high-impact issues like the eventual closing of Casey Elementary School, availability of school bus monitors and changes to command sponsorship. The next Command Information Exchange is scheduled for Oct. 29 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Warriors Club.

The Apollo 14 Command Module, nicknamed “Kitty Hawk,” was recovered from a successful Pacific Ocean splashdown on February 9, 1971. Mission Commander Alan Shepard and Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell landed the Lunar Module “Antares” in the Fra Mauro region of the moon, the original goal of the aborted Apollo 13 mission, four and one-half days after launch. During nine hours of lunar exploration, the astronauts used a two-wheeled cart for transporting equipment, collected 96 pounds of lunar material, and set up lunar surface experiments.
The Apollo 14 Command module (CM 110), with most of the internal instruments, panels, controls and couches removed by NASA for reuse, was declared surplus and transferred from NASA to the Smithsonian in 1974.

I'm really glad I could rent a 100-400mm (600mm equiv.) lens for this event. I wish I could afford the Fuji Tele, but alas. Last airshow at this location I found that a 300mm (450mm equiv) wasn't enough to get closeups and 400mm work beautifully!
