Taken in the same store in Teaneck, NJ as stranger #2, Tony. When I was taking Tony's photo, he said since this guy (who was probably a regular in the shop, since Tony knew by him name), was also a stranger to me.
Short story version (since I've already typed up what happened at this shop on the first portrait): He agreed to let me take the photos and I snapped a few.
I hope I spelled his name correctly.
I actually really like this shot, and the way he's in front of the comics on the wall. :)
This is photo #3 in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers group page or at 100strangers.com.
Ah, here I am in my element, a comic shop. More specifically, Forbidden Planet, on the corner of 13th and Broadway. Not my usual place to buy comics, but I was in the neighborhood, and thought I'd drop in.

I found this shirt (which had matching pants!) along with a batman (WITH ABS) and superman and a few other things at a yardsale on my way to go film at the comic shop.
sometimes i just feel like i am on the right path when things seem to fall into place so oddly perfect.
this is video isn't great. it isn't very well filmed or puppeted but it is long! it is my first attempt at editing footage together. it's not too bad for a first try. you can see the full version here www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvKOmT02P8Y
or you can download a 25 mb higher quality version on my website www.spookydaddy.com
On Sunday, I had most of the day to wander around, so I spent most of it in East VIllage. There are a bunch of stores there to love from goth and punk clothing boutiques like Gothic Renaissance and Trash and Vaudeville, to designer toy shop Toy Tokyo to the comic shop Forbidden Planet. My feet hurt, but it was completely worth it.
Comicana, a comic shop on Shaftsbury Avenue in Tottenham. They have an excellent selection of rare back issues.
I guarantee, this photo is not a trap.
Iron Man and Admiral Ackbar rocking out at Pulp's Comics, in Paris.
Drawning made for Stan Sakai (author of Usagi) when I met him in the B-gevaar, a comicshop in Brussels, Belgium
Look at his lovely little sulky face! I just want to wrap him all up & send him out in the snow to play!
Comic shop in one of those neighborhoods of LA. The guy there was super cool and friendly. I wish all comic book store people were like that. Or just people in general now that I think about it.
This is like 1/100th of Phantom of the Attic Comics' graphic novels and collections. Maybe it's more like 1/1000th. Either way, we have here your classic Marvel Essentials. And some other stuff. Ahhhh comic books. Like a trusted compatriot accompanying me down a lonely highway of despair. Or just some paper with a bunch of pretty pictures and words on it.
The actual indie section in Phantom of the Attic Comics is probably a gazillion times bigger, but this rack makes for a pretty picture, dontcha think? I haven't gone thru and looked at every single title here, but I bet there's some pretty awesome stuff on these shelves.
Hairy Tarantula Games + Comics at Yonge St & Steeles Ave E; still in Toronto but Vaughan and Markam across the street
