Shopfront in the village of Megalo Chorio, Tilos. 28 September 1997.
For those of you who prefer seeing photos of insects rather than my 20-year-old holiday snaps, normal service will be resumed when the weather improves - though judging by the forecast, that may not be until at least the middle of next week. I'm beginning to think I was a bit optimistic in ordering some new patio furniture, which Yodel have just delivered!
This is another scanned print, but it's been perspective corrected in Photoshop to remove the converging verticals, so again it's turned out a lot better than the original.

The old and new bridges at the Dunsford Bridge end of the Woodhead tunnel on Sunday 20th April, 1986. The line through the new tunnel had only recently closed and although the track had been lifted, much of the equipment was still in place. I went into the relay room underneath the signal box and found all the relays still in place. I came back a couple of days later and most of them had been removed.
The narrow gauge railway on the old railway alignment serviced a set of CEGB power cables that ran through one of the old tunnels.

We went out yesterday to buy some peaches at a fruit stand near Jordan Harbour (midway between Beamsville and St Catharines, Ontario on the shore of Lake Ontario) yesterday. This is about two weeks early but most welcome as peaches are among my favourite fruits, particularly when they are tree-ripened and have the intense flavour you only get when they are picked fresh off the trees in the background.
The peaches reminded me of doing much the same thing with my parents when I was but a wee lad. I took a photo with the idea of creating a vintage-looking image. It is a lot of work to create a crappy 1960's style colour print from good modern equipment but I think I have given it a good shot. - JW
Taken using a hand-held Olympus E-3 fitted with a Zuiko 12-60mm lense set to 12mm (equivalent to 24 mm full frame), ISO100, Normal Program mode, f/7.1, 1/200 sec. PP in GIMP: add overall yellow cast using colour balance tool to simulate the poor paper colour used back then, add Orton effect to simulate crappy lenses on box cameras, sharpen slightly, add vintage looking border also tinted to simulate the poor papers used back in then '60s, added a date imprint in the right margin of the border to simulate the way they used to mark those images, added bar and text on left, scaled to 1024 wide for posting.

We have outgrown our current office and production space, so PacBlue is on the move during the month of May!
On May 17th we are very excited to be moving our Large and Grand Format divisions as well as our Administration office to our new state of the art facility at 1475 East Georgia Street, Vancouver BC V5L 2A9. Our modern, spacious and fully renovated new home is just 10 minutes from downtown.
On May 24th our Small Format Colour/Black & White Copy Centre and Reprographics Division will be moving to 325 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver BC V5H 1H3, behind our old location.
So if you’re passing by and feel like a cup of coffee and a chat, please come in, the kettle is always on (well, not actually always on, as that would be a huge waste of energy – but you get what we mean, right?)
See you at the new building!

Currently the headquarters of Lothian Primary Care NHS Trust. St. Roque is a large villa in South Edinburgh which was purchased in 1948, to be added to the Astley Ainslie Hospital.
The Astley Ainslie was founded through the will of Mr. David Ainslie, who died in 1900. David Ainslie was a bachelor; I believe that Astley Ainslie was his nephew, who was intended to inherit the estate but who predeceased David Ainslie.
The original St. Roque's chapel was demolished in 1791. Some of the carvings from it were supposedly found in the grounds around this house --- hence its name.

As a supplement to an article on "The newspaper of the future; will it be printed in two colours?" found in the Advertiser's Weekly for 5 November 1926 comes a series of examples of colour adverts in newspapers. This looks at the new technology that allowed a colour deck to be fitted to newspaper printing presses that allowed the addition of colour as seen here.
Three adverts are printed on news print and were produced especially for the Weekly by the Dutch daily newspaper "Algemeen Handelsblad" on their presses in Amsterdam/ One additional page of miniaturised adverts appears within the magazine proper and again these are of Dutch adverts.
The centre pages open to show an advert for Karel I Sigaren - Karel I Cigars. These were manufactured by the Dutch company founded by Henri van Abbe in 1900. In 1908 the works move to Gestel in Brabant near Eindhoven and unusually van Abbe decides to produce only one brand, Charles I, and to back it by a large advertising campaign. In the 1960s, as tobacco is no longer imported from the former Dutch colonies, the company seems to have struggled with alternative supplies. In 1969 it was sold to an American concern and in 1971 a huge fire seriously damages the factory. In recent years the remains have been demolished.

The beach at Tholos, on the south coast of Tilos. 6 October 1997.
This shot has always been a favourite of mine, as I like the strong light, and the internal reflections and flare from the lens seem to me to enhance rather than detract from the composition. I wasn't sure how well it would scan, but I'm quite pleased with the result, especially as I was able to level up the horizon that had a slight tilt to the left in the original!
