Emborio, Halki. Thursday 3 October 1996.

Colourful new frontage on this row of shops set back from Jamaica Road in the 1960's built Bermondsey Borough Council's flats. As this is located on the 'Dickens estate', I assume it is named after Dora Spenlow in 'David Copperfield'. The estate itself is positioned next to what was 'Jacobs Island', the area described in 'Oliver Twist' as the rookery where Bill Sikes met his end.

Buildings on the estate named after Dickens's characters are: Bardell Hse, Bowley Hse, Brownlow Hse, Casby Hse, Copperfield Hse, Dartle Court, Dombey Hse, Fleming Hse, Haredale Hse, Havisham Hse, Maylie Hse, Micawber Hse, Nickleby Hse, Oliver Hse, Pickwick Hse, Rudge Hse, Spenlow Hse, Tapley Hse, Trotwood Hse, Tupman Hse, Wade Hall, Wade Hse, Weller Hse, Wickfield Hse & Wrayburn Hse. There is also a Lupin Point close by. Excuse me if I've missed any!

I went to a conference in Brighton in April 2010. We were given disposable cameras, the idea being that we'd shoot stuff and hand them back in. I kept mine, and eventually used the film as a test roll for C41 processing with 'Speedibrews CELER-41' and a Jobo CPE-2.

A rather jolly supplement, printed on newsprint and so rather fragile, found in the 1961 Penrose Annual dealing with colour newspaper printing and authored by Dr Walter Matusche. The Hamburger Abendblatt formed part of the Axel Springer publishing house and was the first German newspaper to print colour editiorial. This page is dominated by an advert ffor the Karstadt emporium on Mönckebergstrasse in Hamburg and, given the run up to Christmas, I suspect is selling the various foodstuffs available in the store's delicatessen. It still reads well and certainly is colourful! The shop is still I believe in business at this address. The newspaper itself is also still being published.

Google Translate so apologies.

Knights' Castle, Chorio, on the Greek island of Halki. Thursday 3 October 1996.

Built in the mid-C14th by the Knights of Saint John, the castle is situated atop the hill of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas) on the site of an ancient Hellenistic acropolis, the masonry of which was probably used to build the castle walls. It was held until 1522, when it was surrended to the Ottomans following the fall of Rhodes. At the entrance to the castle is the engraved emblem of the Grand Master of the Knights of Saint John, Pierre d'Aubusson. Inside the castle is the church of Agios Nikolaos, with fragments of murals dating from the C15th and C17th.

Just as the title suggests I am running out of space to dry my prints since I nearly doubled my output due to new 2nd Hand Dunco Color Enlarger I recently bought. So from now on you're being watched whilst relaxing on the loo :D

I noticed that they were circling, so I pointed my camera upwards, focussed, and waited.

The landform hereabouts is known locally known as pudding stone, because of its appearance.

Thomas Quick & Co. I'm not sure where this was now. But the date was Thursday 18th October 1982, and the film was Boots Colourprint II.

Hand-made by the very creative children on camp. These are absolute beauties!

Voroneț, Romania, 2007.

A rather fine insert in the Winter 1936/37 issue of the UK trade journal Printing Review. It serves two purposes; firstly as an example of six rubber mat colour printing showing the versitility of the process in which tracings of the artwork were taken on six mats, one used for each colour.

The insert is for the "Kent Vale" paper and shows several of the weights and finishes available, firstly on the cover and then on the four interleaved graduated pages that overlap producing the final image on the final page. Sadly, given the discussion of the process no artist or printer is given. The name Kent vale is suggested in the artwork of hop fields and oast houses; a scene especially connected with the county of Kent.

The insert is issued under the name of the Allied Paper Merchants and, I am sure, the "W.T." stands for Wiggins Teape, the long established British papermakers founded in 1761. Becoming a public company in 1919 by the date of this advert they had acquired over 30 associated companies and the "Allied" likely marketed the papers produced by the whole group.

I can't find this building anywhere on Google Maps. Please can someone tell me the name and location? Thanks!

I had never been on the (as was) KCR Light Rail, so JJ and I went one day from Tuen Mun to Yuen Long. This was before the West Rail, so we got a bus from Tsim Sha Tsui to Tuen Mun and then picked up the Light Rail. We stopped on the way at a place called Ping Shan, and stumbled upon this brand new, freshly painted building. It didn't seem to be open to the public yet, but, as no-one was around, we had a good look!

UPDATE!!

Finally, after years of Googling "紀念堂 屏山", I found this blog post (blog.terewong.com/archives/8985), which explains that it is Chuk Lam Ming Tong, an elderly care home (www.clmt.org.hk) in Ping Shan. The mystery is solved!!
