The hôtel de la Marine (also known as the hôtel du Garde-Meuble) is an historic building located on place de la Concorde in Paris, to the east of rue Royale. It was designed and built between 1757 and 1774 by the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, on the newly created square first called Place Louis XV. The identical building to its west, constructed at the same time, now houses the hôtel de Crillon and the Automobile Club of France.
The Hôtel de la Marine was originally the home of the royal Garde-Meuble, the office managing the furnishing of all royal properties. Following the French Revolution it became the Ministry of the French Navy, which occupied it until 2015. It was entirely renovated between 2015 and 2021.
It now displays the restored 18th century apartments of Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville-d'Avray, the King's Intendant of the Garde-Meuble, as well the salons and chambers later used by the French Navy.
A separate part displays the Al Thani Collection presenting international and inter-cultural works of art from the collection of Sheik Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani.

For me, this collection represents the care-free days of Summer that allow you to appreciate the exquisite nuances of life. I have been feeling truly blessed lately and now is the time to appreciate the small moments, such as a breeze coming through your window, or stumbling upon a field of flowers. Cheers to the bygone days of Summer and the delightful Fall season ahead.

An old thread on Eurobricks that I started six years ago, about my aircraft, was revived a couple of days ago and prompted me to take a look at what has changed. As I went over my aircraft and helicopter collection I realised that it has reached the pretty staggering number of 50. Last year around this time there were 45.
The WW-II aircraft are scaled for minifigs (either 1/43 or 1/40) and the Cold War/ modern military models are all scaled 1/36 with the exception of a few of the Helicopters which are scaled 1/22 -the same scale as most of my cars.
I have a few more helicopters, but I excluded them from this because they are not scale models of real ones. ( I also still have an HH-65 Dolphin, but it is stored in a box in a state of disrepair and may not survive much longer. )

Recently added the Gorilla and Crab walker to the collection of "oficial" walkers. (Also got the prequel ones but they are parted out.). The Gorilla is a decent build, but screams for some modding. I think i'll wait till i've seen the movie, after that i can have some better images, and create a better one :) or UCS? who knows..
the collection as of december '07
not shown: the camera that took the picture - nikon d40
or the digital camera on the macbook or in the cell phone.
brings the tally to something around 56 cameras.
most cameras seen here were thrifted. the majority cost $1 or less.
in cases. and the ones i use are on a shelf.
i don't want to pay for film any more. i don't want to buy $7 batteries to use in cameras that cost $1 a shot.
i know i can get film for all of the cameras [except the polaroid roll film, that's the only one dead. the sx-70 pack can be modified, etc]
if i happen to find polaroid 600 film for a quarter a pack, then hell ya.
in the mean time, i'm goin digital and stockpiling film cameras for fun.

Many people have asked me why I haven't commented on these new series of photos with white frames and wanted to know who the photographer was. For these, I am both the model and the photographer, which is not easy. I started this collection to try to show the different facets of my personality, what I like, the worlds that interest me, my sensitivity to certain situations or environments. I hope it will help you understand me better...if that's possible?!?!? ahahhahahahha
Yes I know, I already have one of these in my collection, but that one has turquoise enamel and this one is oxblood, and I can't decide which I like better. Plus it was only $13, so there was no way I was passing it up!
This is the first model of the Penti, made in Germany in 1959. It takes 35mm film in special cassettes.

Next to an elementary school, I suppose it's not surprising to find collections of things. Nuts. Bits of twig. Similarly shaped and sized little stones.
Recent shoot I did for Secret Entourage, had my friend Courtney Walker model again — there's a lot of her in my stream now I realize! I'll have some new models in here soon.
Featuring a white and black Evo X "Yin & Yang", and also a white Bentley SuperSport. They are all owned by the same guy, nice collection!

I don't have as many science fiction books as I used to but these are my remaining books by Isaac Asimov. I've kept the Robot series and the Foundation series, all great reads and groundbreaking in the science fiction genre.
We're Here looks at I, Robot and Isaac Asimov today.
The Rijksmuseum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈrɛi̯ksmyˌzeːjʏm]; English: State Museum) is a Netherlands national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.
The Rijksmuseum was founded in The Hague in 1800 and moved to Amsterdam in 1808, where it was first located in the Royal Palace and later in the Trippenhuis. The current main building was designed by Pierre Cuypers and first opened its doors in 1885. On 13 April 2013, after a ten-year renovation which cost € 375 million, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix. In 2013 and 2014, it was the most visited museum in the Netherlands with record numbers of 2.2 million and 2.45 million visitors.
The museum has on display 8,000 objects of art and history, from their total collection of 1 million objects from the years 1200–2000, among which are some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes Vermeer. The museum also has a small Asian collection which is on display in the Asian pavilion.
Building
The building of the Rijksmuseum was designed by Pierre Cuypers and opened in 1885. It consists of two squares with an atrium in each centre. In the central axis is a tunnel with the entrances at ground level and the Gallery of Honour at the first floor. The building also contains a library. The fragment building, branded Philips wing, contains building fragments that show the history of architecture in the Netherlands. The Rijksmuseum is a rijksmonument (national heritage site) since 1970 and was listed in the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites in 1990. The Asian pavilion was designed by Cruz y Ortiz and opened in 2013.
History
21st century
The atrium after the renovation in 2013
In December 2003, the main building of the museum closed for a major renovation. During this renovation, about 400 objects from the collection were on display in the 'fragment building', including Rembrandt's The Night Watch and other 17th-century masterpieces.
The restoration and renovation of the Rijksmuseum are based on a design by Spanish architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz. Many of the old interior decorations were restored and the floors in the courtyards were removed. The renovation would have initially taken five years, but was delayed and eventually took almost ten years to complete. The renovation cost € 375 million.
The reconstruction of the building was completed on 16 July 2012. In March 2013 the museum's main pieces of art were moved back from the 'fragment building' (Philips Wing) to the main building. The Night Watch returned to the Night Watch Room, at the end of the Hall of Fame. On 13 April 2013, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix. On 1 November 2014 the Philips Wing reopened with the exhibition Modern Times: Photography in the 20th Century.
According to Muriel Huisman, Project Architect for the Rijksmuseum's renovation, "Cruz y Ortiz always like to look for a synergy between old and new, and we try not to explain things with our architecture.” With the Rijks, “there’s no cut between old and new; we’ve tried to merge it. We did this by looking for materials that were true to the original building, resulting in a kind of silent architecture."

The collection of the Rijksmuseum consists of 1 million objects and is dedicated to arts, crafts, and history from the years 1200 to 2000. Around 8000 objects are currently on display in the museum.
The collection contains more than 2,000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age by notable painters such as Jacob Isaakszoon van Ruisdael, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Rembrandt, and Rembrandt's pupils.
The museum also has a small Asian collection which is on display in the Asian pavilion.
It also displays the stern of HMS Royal Charles which was captured in the Raid on the Medway, and the Hartog plate.
In 2012 the museum took the unusual step of making some 125,000 high-resolution images available for download via its Rijksstudio webplatform, with plans to add another 40,000 images per year until the entire collection of one million works is available, according to Taco Dibbits, director of collections.
