3/10/11 We proceeded upslope to Laguna de Maria. Steven Howell claims that you can see many many birds here around the third week of March. It is very dry all around at this time of year and this is a bit of a migrant trap..

We were amused that the best hotel in town was a Best Western

3/5/11 Playa de Oro Road. A cobblestone road to the Ocean. A dry tropical forest. Chachalacas, Caciques,,Rose --throated Becards,Brown -crested Flycatcher, Ivory -billed Woodcreeper, White -throated Thrushes,Tanagers, Orioles.

3/7/11 An early morning drive up to about 7,000 feet on the slopes of the "Volcano of Snow". This was about 90 minutes outside and above Ciudad Guzman. Ciudad Guzman is about 3-4 hours inland from Manzanillo. Lots of Humming Birds, Red Warblers, Collared Towhees,Pine Flycatchers,Crested Guan, Silkies and Orange- crowned and Yellow -rumped Warblers.

There were hundreds of these, all done with loving care, across Mexico

3/9/11 After driving on utility roads, We actually went on the Park entrance road. Very Productive,Nightingale Thrush, Dwarf Vireo, Hepatic Tanager, Bright Rumped Attila, Olive Warbler, Mexican Hairy Woodpecker.

The first moth I ever photographed.

3/4/11 Barra de Navidad, Jalisco Mexico. The first day of the trip. Sinaloa Wren came up and landed on a nearby fencepost. Orange Breasted and Painted Buntings, Tropical Kingbirds, Great Kiskadee, Blue Grosbeak and a bunch of Warblers. The Yellow "Mangrove" Warbler was a stunningly beautiful bird. Gray Hawk on Power Lines was notable.

I *ate* all that food!

3/10/11 Laguna de Maria, We went down a trail, were attacked briefly by Coatis rolling stones/boulders down a hillside. Chachalacas were sounding off nearby, Black Headed Siskins, Buff Breasted Flycatchers, Elegant Trogon, Spotted and House Wrens,Chestnut Capped and Lincoln's Sparrows, a constant supply of Vermillion Flycatchers, BG Gnatcatchers, Yellowrumps (Audubon's) Tropic Flycatchers, Ladderback WPs and Striped Headed Sparrows.

3/10/11 A shrine at the "Amphitheater". Black Capped and Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, Dusky Cappped and Cordillerian Flycatchers, Rufous Capped Warblers, Black Capped and Dwarf Vireos, Chestnut Capped Sparrows. "Apaga La luz de Dia Gracias".

3/8/11 Banded Quail, a bunch of White Throated Swifts, more Grasshopper Sparrows, John got us a Russet-crowned Mot Mot.
