Bebeka Coffee Plantation is located in south western Ethiopia in Mizan Teferi.
With 6,000 hectares and around 5,000 employees the plantation is the largest coffee plantation in Ethiopia and it is also the oldest one. An altitude of 1,500 meters provides an ideal climate and enables the best growing conditions for the plants that are well protected by the larger forest trees which provide shade from the midday sun and preserve the moisture in the soil.
Ethiopia is traditionally a coffee country as it is the original country were coffe was produced. The word coffee comes from the name of the area where it is mainly grown, which is Kaffa.
Ethiopia produces 200,000 tons of coffee each year, of which almost half is for domestic consumption, the highest in Africa.

The Coffee Tree Roastery opened in 1988, and has been an fixture in Bloor West Village ever since. They were one of the first independent coffee houses in the city, and (according to their website at coffeetree.ca), they brought the European coffee experience to Toronto. The roastery has a garden terrace and a streetside patio - or at least, that's what Google says when I look them up. I loved the look of the place, but, sadly, it was closed when I was there. I will head back there again to try out their coffee, and possibly to pick up some roasted beans for home.
They offer an assortment of single origin coffees, and only ever use specialty grade beans in their blends. The Roastmaster specializes in drawing out the natural flavour characteristics of the beans during the roast. There is a good selection of coffee available to buy online, and it's also available in store for in person purchasing. Definitely worth visiting when I head out that way again.
Not much of a harvest I'm affraid, this is the lone fruit of an indoor North American coffee tree. It stands in a full floor to ceiling window facing South West. The building is air conditioned, I think it would prefer more humidity.

The seed beetle, Megabruchidius dorsalis (Fahreus, 1839) is reared from pods of kentucky coffeetree (Gymnocladus dioicus), which has the hardest seeds I know. This species is known since three years in Hungary and originally occurs in East-Asia.
