Enjoy your coffee in a mug having seoul metro map design on it.

Yesterday I spent most of the day making some new canes and taking pictures of the process. I plan to feature these in my blog in the near future. Of course, I stopped for a coffee break !

It was a cold day in NJ. It was a good day to stay in an have an extra cup of coffee.

And, the morning I've just made ready for will be our last in this house. The coffee maker, two mugs, two cereal bowls, two spoons stand ready to offer sustenance and reassurance. Now, for sleep ...

So, I have this thing for mugs (and cookware, dishware, stemware, flatware ... cutlery). Last fall, I noticed these coffee mugs at the place where I get my hair worked on. To most it looks like a run-of-the mill white mug. But it's not! The well is the perfect size -- it's tall and narrow, but holds just the right amount of coffee. And the handle -- just look at the shape of the handle! You don't see it? Well, I do. But here's the thing: I didn't see them anywhere else.

For months I've looked, but have not been able to find anything that comes close to this mug. So last night, after learning my stylist is moving to a new salon, and after realizing I need to take a PAD, I decided to take a picture of them (and take action).

The salon owner walked by while I was snapping photos of the mugs, so I explained how perfect I thought they were. She said the previous owner got them from a restaurant that closed. I said, "Aha! I should have known to check with a restaurant supplier."

Together, we looked at the mug. I sighed. She ran some numbers. Literally, she started punching buttons on the adding machine behind the counter. We negotiated.

After reaching an agreement, she carefully packed my mugs (I bought four of them).

The best part of the evening (besides obtaining these wonderful drinking vessels)? Watching other foil-wrapped clients walk up to the coffee station and look, quizically, at the remaining mugs. They tried, but they didn't see it either.

some of my fiesta dishes. when i was little, we had fiesta dishes that my mom got for free when she made a purchase at the corner grocery store. the plates were much smaller then.....and they are not free any more!

The German text on the backside is "Ohne Kaffee läuft hier gar nichts!" - the above is a free translation by me:)

I purchased this mug in a surprise package of cat items in a mail order house years ago. It's one of very few Garfield items I have (Except several puzzles, see my set "The Garfield Puzzles").

Retro coffee mug. Mother. This was given to me by a friend who it was given to. A couple had passed away & their daughter was getting rid of many items so my friend got this & gave it to me. It is chipped but I remember these type mugs from the early 60's. It is BIG, too! I cant imagine a daughter giving away her Mother's favorite coffee mug/cup....I treasure it and try to keep "Mrs. Anderson's" memory alive even tho I never knew her...she was a Mom.

Columbia Heights mug, with the Metro logo and green dot representing Metro's Green Line. I bought it from WMATA's website to show a little neighborhood pride.

The idea for this photo came from a few different places. First of all I absolutely love Alice in Wonderland, I always have. If I had to chose a fictional place to live in it would be wonderland. So the idea partly came from my childish love of cartoons, but the idea really developed when I started applying to a second job. I felt like I really needed a place to escape to, where I could forget all my grownup responsibilities and be free. Art has always been a place where I can act like a child and no one cares. My imagination can let go and be wild, I feel more energy when I create things, and art has helped me understand my circumstances better. So this is my wonderland.
