The Australian Dingo is our nations apex predator. The Dingo is highly adaptable, intelligent, resourceful and hardy.

Recent studies by Yale University have shown it is the most intelligent canid on the planet.

Despite unrelenting extermination efforts since the arrival of Europeans, it has managed to survive in some form throughout much of Australia, although the Alpine Dingo found along the Eastern seaboard are critically endangered. Our governments, pushed strongly by farmers groups continue to support the demonstrably unsuccessful and ecologically and economically unsustainable pursuit of dingo eradication. There is strong evidence to show that the eradication of our apex predator has done much to allow the proliferation of introduced predators like foxes and feral cats who are much more dangerous to our native wildlife, this evidence shows strongly that allowing the Dingo to thrive would lead to a more sustainable coexistence model and benefit the biodiversity greatly.

Yet our governments continue to allow and support the baiting, trapping and shooting of these amazing animals.

They are such amazing creatures, so beautiful looking. I am a “dog person”, I love all dogs, but these native animals are extra special creatures – you can tell this quickly when you meet them.

The dingo is a true Australian native animal with recent geological and DNA evidence suggesting the species has been on the Australian continent for many thousands of years more than the 4,000 years that has been thought for some time. They have been recognised as a separate species, Canus Dingo. Previously it was thought that they had evolved from wolves.

The dingo is classified as a “pest” or “vermin” by some state governments and many are authorising baiting of these beautiful animals with the terribly cruel poison 1080 which is banned in many other countries.

The Dingo Discovery Sanctuary at Toolern Vale, led by one of my favourite people Lyn Watson, do terrific work for these beautiful animals.

Logan Circle, Philadelphia

Logan Circle's thriving rat colonies, nurtured by the city's laid-back approach to emptying public trash cans, means living is easy for the hawks. At least until someone in authority panics and distributes rat poison, which along with killing some rats sickens and sometimes kills predators who feed on the dying rodents. Nonlethal management is better for all of us! www.researchgate.net/publication/344930739_Human-Wildlife...

This Great egret and mallard were seen at Heather Farm Pond in Walnut Creek, California.

Sangsaeng'Hands,

Sangsaeng'Hands,

the right hand and the left hand are located on the sea and on the land respectively.

Every year, from December 31st to January 1st, together with Jeongdongjin and Ganjeolgot (beaches in the same area), tens of thousands of people from all over the country gather near this hand to watch the New Year's sunrise.

The right hand is 8.5 m high and weighs 18 tons and is made of bronze, while the left hand is 5.5 m high and weighs 13 tons and is also made of bronze.

The hands of coexistence are the symbol of honor of the Homigot Sunrise Festival, a national event.

In the new millennium these sculptures, created with the hope that all citizens live together and help each other, become the symbol of this wish.

This photographic story of mine, with descriptive text, was created in Novara di Sicilia (ME) on August 15th of this year, on the occasion of a suggestive traditional religious and popular celebration, that of the Apotheosis of the Assumption (in Heaven), which takes place every 5 years, however due to the bans issued during the Covid, it was not celebrated in 2020, so this celebration had not been held for 10 years. I would like to tell the origins of this ancient tradition, which began with the arrival of the Normans in Sicily around the year 1000. At that time, Southern Italy was a coexistence of peoples, religions, and languages, the most diverse. The majority were the Lombards. There were also the Greeks, with the Greek population of Calabria and Salento (i.e., the Byzantines), with the Greek Church based in Constantinople. It was not a foreign Byzantine domination, but rather the people of those lands for centuries. Then there were the Arabs who had conquered Sicily, and even under the Arabs in Sicily, Greeks, Latins, and Jews coexisted; the populations coexisted with each other, and the leaders waged war against each other. Then, in southern Italy, the Normans arrived, seeking adventure and fortune. They were French from Northern France, and the descendants of the Vikings from Scandinavia. the Norman Roger 1st of Sicily (known as the Great Count Roger) together with his brother, conquered Puglia, Calabria, subsequently they allied themselves with an Arab emir reigning in Sicily, who asked them for help because he was fighting against another Arab emir present in Sicily, Roger landed in Messina in February 1061 managing to occupy the eastern part of Sicily, thirty years after his landing in Sicily, in 1091 Roger could say he was master of all of Sicily; Ancient literature credits Great Count Roger with initiating the celebrations of the Assumption, whose banner featured the image of the Our Lady Ascending to Heaven. Under his patronage, the process of "re-Christianization" of the island began. Devotion to the Virgin was strengthened in the territory of Novara di Sicilia in the 12th century with the arrival of the French abbot Hugh (also proclaimed a saint), sent to Sicily by Bernard of Clairvaux, of the Cistercian Order, which has the figure of the Assumption as a cornerstone of its religious institution. This celebration-feast has seen mixed fortunes. Before the Second World War, the float with the Assumption was carried in procession along with approximately 15 floats of various saints. After that conflict, the bishop banned carrying statues of saints alongside the Assumption. With the Great Jubilee of 2000, the ancient tradition was revived with the Saints preceding the Assumption's exit. They arrive in the town's main square, forming a semicircle, awaiting the arrival of the Assumption, which in the meantime has been carried in procession through the town's streets. Upon her return to the square around midnight, the Assumption of Mary is reunited with all the Saints, giving life to the supreme expression of the Apotheosis of Mary Assumed into Heaven, amidst songs, litanies, and prayers. This, in short, is a great, heartfelt procession that begins in the afternoon and continues late into the night, with the many floats of saints preceding that of the Assumption of Mary, characterized by having their arms raised high, and the presence of more than 150 candles being lit. The official logo of the Solemn Apotheosis of the Assumption encloses the presence of the 15 saints as if they were 15 roses, arranged in a crown around the monogram "M - A" (Our Lady Ascending to Heaven): for Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy the "Mystical Rose" is "the Love of God", a symbol of divine perfection, peace, and the beauty of Paradise, linked to the figure of Mary, the Mystical Rose par excellence. Thus the Apotheosis is nothing other than the Embrace that God, through Mary and the Saints, addresses to all men.

This photograph presents a breathtaking tapestry of nature’s colors with a field divided between the lush purple of blooming lavender and the vibrant yellow-green of wild grass. The stark contrast creates a visual feast, as if two different worlds are meeting along an unseen boundary. The lavender’s rich violet hues, symbolic of serenity and grace, seem to dance with the wild energy of the sunlit grasses, which stretch towards the sky with unbridled liveliness. The interplay of light across the scene adds depth and texture, highlighting the individual beauty of each plant while celebrating their coexistence. This image not only captures the eye but also the imagination, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the wild, wonderful splendor of this natural mosaic.

I took this photo yesterday morning. One of the biggest bears that I have encountered in a long time. There was no wind but the tree was swaying under the weight, then this big head appeared chewing on nuts I believe. Very heavy because the branches (as you can see) couldn't hold the weight. About 4 metres off the ground. Not sure if male or female but we named it 'One Eye' because the right eye was missing.

🇬🇧 A silent act of care, a bowl of food, a fragile kitten, and a man whose presence seems rooted in routine. On the famous mosaic steps of Selarón in Rio, life unfolds modestly—between tiled patterns and feline hunger.

This scene is not posed, not loud, just a quiet imprint of coexistence.

A fable of 3 cultures:

Mammon, Buddha, and Jesus walk into Greybeard’s Bar & Grill.

Mammon offers keen interest in return for exclusive service, orders a Manhattan, and gulps it down in a New York minute. He gets up to go, calling over his shoulder, “Have another meeting. Been real.”

The proprietor watches wealth slip away, and wonders silently what Buddha will desire.

Buddha—having no preference—has by now occupied every seat at the bar. He smiles, “If it’s all the same to you, practice detachment from a veggie burger. Please make me one with everything.”

Having set those wheels in motion, Greybeard finds Jesus—seated in a booth, ordering through the screen: one Godfather, on a rock; one shot of Everclear, straight up; a carafe of tap water, and a wine glass.

The old gent lifts an eyebrow. “You want ice in that carafe, Son?”

Jesus replies, “No, thanks—it just dilutes the Chianti.”

This captivating photograph taken at Vasona Lake Park in Los Gatos, CA, features the stately grace of a Great Egret standing in the shallows. The bird's pristine white plumage stands out against the rippling blue waters, reflecting a subtle interplay of light and shadow. With its long neck extended and beady eyes scanning the depths, the egret embodies the poised patience of a skilled hunter. The gentle ripples in the water around its slender legs suggest a quiet movement, barely disturbing the peace of the lake. This image captures a moment of harmony between wildlife and the serene environment of the park, offering a glimpse into the natural beauty that can be found within an urban setting. The egret, an emblem of the park's thriving ecosystem, is a testament to the coexistence of human recreation areas and wildlife habitats.

A house sparrow and mourning dove hunting for seed spilled from a backyard bird feeder. Peaceful coexistence seems to be prevailing over direct competition.

Captured this pair at the San Diego Zoo. They had a large area with the grazing herbivores in together. I had not realized the zebra had a mane. It causes an optical illusion of movement, at least to me.

Cat bonds involve a profound sense of trust, harmony and a silent language that only they understand. Bonded cats tend to share their territory without conflict or aggression finding comfort in each other’s presence, when they feel safe occupying the same spaces.

Walter Womacka's surrounding mosaic frieze extends over two floors of the Haus des Lehrers. The figurative scenes and symbolic motifs from the lives of GDR citizens are composed of more than 800,000 individual tiles. Murals by Mexican artists served as inspiration for Womacka's wall design. The scenes are designed in bright colours and flat shapes with black contours. Each side has its own theme. The north side of the frieze is dedicated to science and technology. The south wall shows workers in various professions next to a painter, which depicts the coexistence of different professional groups. The central theme of the east side is friendship between nations. The idea of peaceful coexistence is expressed by the symbolic white dove that connects the individual scenes. The west side of the frieze shows everyday scenes from life in the GDR. The remaining scenes are grouped around a young couple in the centre of the picture.

Swans are birds of the family Anatidae within the genus Cygnus. The swans' closest relatives include the geese and ducks. Swans are grouped with the closely related geese in the subfamily Anserinae where they form the tribe Cygnini. Sometimes, they are considered a distinct subfamily, Cygninae. There are six or seven living (and one extinct) species of swan in the genus Cygnus; in addition, there is another species known as the coscoroba swan, although this species is no longer considered one of the true swans. Swans usually mate for life, although 'divorce' sometimes occurs, particularly following nesting failure, and if a mate dies, the remaining swan will take up with another. The Northern Hemisphere species of swan have pure white plumage but the Southern Hemisphere species are mixed black and white. The Australian black swan (Cygnus atratus) is completely black except for the white flight feathers on its wings; the chicks of black swans are light grey.

The Eurasian coot (Fulica atra), also known as the common coot, or Australian coot, is a member of the rail and crake bird family, the Rallidae. It is found in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and parts of North Africa. It has a slaty-black body, a glossy black head and a white bill with a white frontal shield. The sexes are similar. The Eurasian coot is 36–38 cm in length with a wing-span of 70–80 cm; males weigh around 890 g and females 750 g. It largely black except for the white bill and frontal shield (which gives rise to the phrase as bald as a coot, in use as early as 1430). As a swimming species, the coot has partial webbing on its long strong toes. The sexes are similar in appearance. The coot breeds across much of the Old World on freshwater lakes and ponds. It occurs and breeds in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa. The species has recently expanded its range into New Zealand. It is resident in the milder parts of its range, but migrates further south and west from much of Asia in winter as the waters freeze.

The dusky moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa) is a bird species in the rail family and is one of the eight extant species in the moorhen genus. It occurs in India, Australia, New Guinea, Borneo and Indonesia. It is often confused with the purple swamphen and the Eurasian coot due to similar appearance and overlapping distributions. The dusky moorhen is a medium size bird, slightly smaller than the purple swamphen. The New Guinea birds are smaller, at 25–32 centimetres in length, than the Australian race 34–38 centimetres . Adult males generally weigh on average around 570 grams and adult females 493 grams. The adult dusky moorhen is mainly dark grey-black, with a browner tinge to the upper parts. It has a red frontal shield and yellow-tipped red bill like its Eurasian relative, but lacks the white flank line shown by common moorhen, and has orange-yellow rather than yellow legs. The Australian subspecies is larger and pager than both other subspecies. The dusky moorhen is found in wetland habitats, with a preference for freshwater marshes and swamps, and are rarely found far from these areas except when foraging in nearby vegetation.

The hardhead (Aythya australis), also known as the white eyed duck, is the only true diving duck found in Australia. The common name hardhead has nothing to do with the density of the bird's skull, instead referring to the difficulty encountered by early taxidermists in processing the head. Hardheads are found in wetter, coastal regions of Australia, particularly in the south-east, but are known to disperse as far afield as New Guinea, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. Hardheads are common in the south-east of Australia, particularly in the Murray-Darling Basin, but also in the wetter country near the coasts. 25510

In this series of photographs, I returned to the beaches around Taormina, thus concluding a "photographic triad" dedicated to beach photography, encouraged by my life and residence near the sea since I was a boy; I post photographs that speak of serenity, joie de vivre, love in the broadest sense, featuring beachgoers of all ages, whose habits (often) are consolidated by living in sun-kissed latitudes. And yet, I ask myself, every day in the world we witness immense tragedies, caused not by natural disasters (often unpredictable), but by the sinister and nefarious will of man, and so I ask myself if it is right to post images that speak of a reality that almost seems to come "from another planet (sigh!)”, where coexistence, a sense of brotherhood, Love, coexist peacefully among people (in this case... often) in bathing suits :-) .... The next "photographic cycle" will be dedicated to several photographic series that "wait to see the light - again -", having as their theme the traditional religious popular festivals that characterize our island of Sicily.

This is CoExistence, one of the finest and most thrilling environmental art exhibitions I’ve ever visited. During its occupation of Green Park in London in 2021, it comprised 100 breathtaking life-sized elephant sculptures.

“Come and walk among the herd, feel their majesty and peacefulness” said Ruth Ganesh and Shubhra Nayar, who created the sculptures. “Listen to the birdsong in the trees and be part of their ancient world. Stand with the matriarchs leading their families, touch their immense forms and be touched by them. The planet is our home and theirs. The herd are here to tell their story of coexistence – that there is room for all of us on this planet.”

This captivating image showcases a vibrant array of succulents, each a living work of art. At the heart of the composition, a stunning purple aeonium rosette commands attention with its intricate spiral of fleshy leaves, transitioning from deep burgundy edges to a lime-green center. Surrounding it, pale peach-hued echeveria stretch their delicate leaves upward, creating a soft contrast. The scene is punctuated by the sharp, serrated edges of aloe plants, their cool green tones and white spots adding texture and visual interest. Weathered branches weave through the arrangement, adding an organic, natural feel. This close-up view offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the diverse world of drought-resistant plants, highlighting their unique shapes, colors, and adaptations. It's a testament to nature's ability to create beauty even in harsh conditions, inviting the viewer to appreciate the intricate details and harmonious coexistence of these desert dwellers.

In her Messi jersey, this woman arranged bananas under a simple wooden stall. What struck me was the coexistence of global symbols and local realities. I wanted to capture the everyday pride of work that goes unseen, where football shirts mix with fruit and resilience.

As the day's light wanes to the soft glow of dusk, a formation of birds is silhouetted against the amber tapestry of the evening sky. In this serene scene captured over the wetlands, the birds are embarking on their twilight journey, adding a dynamic element to the stillness of the landscape. The scattered clouds, dyed in shades of orange and gold by the setting sun, provide a vibrant backdrop to the tranquil wilderness below. This photograph encapsulates the peaceful coexistence of wildlife and the day's end, offering a moment of reflection on the day's passage and the natural cycles that endure.

I love these chance encounters with a wild animal, where you connect for just a few seconds.

Explored May 19, 2022

With this image, I wanted to blur the boundaries between the natural landscape and human industry, capturing Port-la-Nouvelle in the magical amber light of dusk.

The choice of a strong, golden monochrome was deliberate: it’s about extracting poetry from what might at first seem unremarkable—a factory, a marsh, the line of distant hills—and weaving them into a graphic, almost dreamlike moment.

The lone bird flying above the scene introduces a note of life and freedom, subtly narrating the coexistence (and sometimes tension) between the wild and the built environment.

For me, this photo is less about documenting a place and more about evoking the mood of the Mediterranean shore—fascinating, ambiguous, caught between beauty and industry.

I hope the viewer pauses there, suspended in this golden silence, where everything familiar becomes a touch mysterious.

This photo was taken from the Bés Corna Piana.

The Bés Corna Piana nature reserve extends between 1,500 and 1,700 meters above sea level in southern Trentino.

The reserve stretches along the Monte Baldo chain, between Vallagarina and Lake Garda. Its particular geographical location, characterized by the coexistence of multiple climatic situations, has allowed an incredible botanical richness to develop here. Monte Baldo is universally known for the particular varieties that only here grow luxuriantly. Among the immense floral heritage of Baldo, one particularly fascinating group stands out: the 60 different species of orchids.
