Royal Air Force No.43 'Fighting Cocks' Squadron Panavia Tornado F.3 ZE887/GF on the flight line at the 2008 Biggin Hill 'Air Fair'
Introduced as the ADV (Air Defence Version) of the original MRCA (Multi-Role Combat Aircraft) concept that became the Tornado, these specialised F.3 variants serviced our QRA and front-line fighter squadrons out of Leuchars in Scotland, Coningsby in Lincolnshire and Leeming in North Yorkshire until the advent of the Typhoon which superceded the type
Coningsby also hosted the F.2/F.3 OCU No.229
Retired from use in 2011, the F.3 fleet were processed and 'parted out' through BAE's Leeming facility to help keep the GR.4 fleet flying

The common pheasant is widespread throughout the world,
Studies have shown that only mature cock pheasants hold territories in prime habitat, usually along the edge of a wood; younger males are forced to live away from the woodland edge.
The cock pheasant proclaims its territory with a distinctive two-syllable crow.
A successful cock may have a harem of up to half a dozen hens. However, the majority of cocks are less successful, and many fail to breed, this cock pheasant has 6 wives.
cock fighting remains hugely popular in Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia. These two men are on their way home after an afternoon's fighting in Bangkok.

Cock Pheasants squaring up to each other although this encounter ended peacefully with just a bit of posturing before one decided to walk away.
From Wikipedia....... "Cock Lane is a small street in Smithfield in the City of London, leading from Giltspur Street in the east to Snow Hill in the west.
In the medieval period, it was known as Cokkes Lane and was the site of legal brothels. 25 Cock Lane is the site where the supposed Cock Lane ghost manifested itself in 1762, and is also the place where writer John Bunyan, who wrote England's first best-seller, died from a fever in 1688."

This picture was taken at noon while walking through a small village in the region of Isan (North-East Thailand). Local rice farmers had organised a cock fighting practice among two of their many roosters.
Please note that I do not endorse animal cruelty. Further, no animals were hurt during the practice. I simply posted this picture to depict the animosity between the two animals.
Fighting Cock's.
Its a vicious sport,
or I shouldn't even call it a sport.
A cheap form of entertainment,
for ghouls and bets.
A very fast paced event ,
that the eyes can't even keep track of.
Metal spurs are tied to the cocks legs.
The cock's fly up in the air and flap their wings,
and it doesn't look like nothing happened,
Until you see the wounds on the other bird,
Finally one gets too tired to defend itself,
and slowly dies amid the claps of the people,
gathered around.
Money changes hands,
and a new fight begins.
To bad there isn't someone fighting this hard for the birds,
to stop this devilish spectatble.

p.s. you can watch a short clip here,
if want to see a glimpse of this cheap entertainment.
I know I shouldnt post such a clip,
But sometimes closing your eyes isnt the answer.
Thought that the practice of making hay cocks had died out in Ireland until I came across a field of them in Donegal recently.
Well, maybe not a costume...
...but I've always found bodies with animal heads to be intensely evocative...

My engineer left the office door open and these three wandered in. After we kicked them out for pooping on the floor, they hung around the office for a few days. No sign of them yet this week, but the tuft of feathers and coyote poo tells the tale. Too bad, they were friendly, and smart enough to stay away from the trains. They were probably some assholes pets, that got dumped at the yard.
