Near a large and ancient poultry market so not nearly as sensational as the name suggests.
An alternative, and less prosaic offering suggests it was so-called because in the middle ages it was the venue for cock fights.
A further suggestion relates to a guilded statue can be seen high on a wall (I haven't seen it, perhaps it is no longer there?) which represented a pub (long gone) called the 'Fortune oif War'. The statue was of a naked boy.
This is Bobby when he was around 10 years old. He was a beautiful red and white cocker but by this point his colors had faded quite a bit.

Adult male. A weird flycatcher restricted to tall, ungrazed grasslands. Widespread destruction of it's habitat has left it rather rare and local. They fly around with their tails cocked up making them look like toy airplanes!
