There were quite a few of these around in this woodland and I had not realised they were cockroaches when I first saw them.

The brilliant orange hues of this native cockroach stood out from the rest of his more conventionally coloured companions, sheltering under a rock deep in the Wollemi NP.

These are pretty ordinary pics :-( They just won't keep still (especially when scooped up by a net).

"Most roaches are oviparous -- their young grow in eggs outside of the mother's body. In these species, the mother roach carries her eggs around in a sac called an ootheca, which is attached to her abdomen. The number of eggs in each ootheca varies from species to species. Many female roaches drop or hide their ootheca shortly before the eggs are ready to hatch. Others continue to carry the hatching eggs and care for their young after they are born. But regardless of how long the mother and her eggs stay together, the ootheca has to stay moist in order for the eggs to develop."

Our happy boy does his impression of a dead cockroach.

I thought it was a beetle when I first saw it, even after I have photographed it. Only when viewing the images on a big screen that I realized it was more like a cockroach. Just look at the dark armored back. How cool is that? Gotta be the coolest cockroach I have ever seen! Found it at night in Gunung Gading Park, Sarawak, Borneo.

I saw a few cockroaches, and a number of winged ones, but I didn't get very good photos. None of them were invasive or unpleasant, just little natives doing their thing.

This is a close up view of the cockroach leg pulled out of my bean dip on August 22nd. It was a brand new can that I had just opened.

This one was maybe 1.25 in. long. Very feisty.

There are only two kinds of cockroach that usually found in United Kingdom. However, the damage that they do are same. If you ever tried to kill them within your property then, you see them again. Perhaps you need to know about them more before you can completely eradicate them.

We got two adult Madagascar hissing cockroaches for pets today. The kids were so excited! I took them out and put them on the Elmo so they could all see them on the smartboard. This does nothing to show scale. These bugs are longer than my finger. And they really do hiss when you touch them. So cool!
