Rusty is a handsome 4 year old cocker who weighs 31 pounds. He often has a pensive look on his face but his short little tail telegraphs happiness as measured by the ongoing wags of his short little tail. His eyes are what captured me the first time I met him --they are so expressive and engaging. It is so surprising to me that Rusty and so many of his pals were diagnosed with heartworms when they arrived at Atlanta Pet Rescue. Go to Bali and despite a legal ban you will not pass through a populated area without seeing at least a few fighting cocks. The birds will generally be housed in small woven bamboo baskets where they will wait before their next fight. I didn't actually see a fight but i am assured that they are brutal since the birds have razor blades fixed to their legs! A good bird may survive as many as three fights and the fight order works on a 'winner stays on basis'. Considering that the population of Bali generally believe in reincarnation based on how good you were in your previous life these birds must have done some pretty bad stuff in lives gone by!

The Cock Pub more recently known as Nambucca went on fire around 11.30pm on 16 December. Rumour has it that it started in the basement. The basement was used by local band The Holloways to practice and store their equipment. This impoverished group lost everything. Coming later how I investigated the rumour. 21 December 2008
Cockscomb flowers are also known as Wool Flowers or Brain Celosia, suggestive of a highly colored brain.
The flowers belong to the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae. Cockscomb blooms with a compacted crested head.
Chatuchak is the biggest market in Bangkok. Every weekend, 17000 stalls are installed and you can find pretty much everything for nothing in this crazy market. While walking, I came across the cock place and saw a couple of cocks fights. They were not fighting to death, the first one turning it's back is losing.
