Cluj-Napoca heeft verschillende namen door de jaren heen gehad. De Romeinen gaven na de verovering in de tweede eeuw de naam 'Napoca'. Heel veel later, in de 9e eeuw, drongen Hongaarse stammen de stad binnen en noemden het 'Kolosvár'. Later onder Ceausescu’s regime werd het 'Cluj-Napoca'. Tegenwoordig zegt elke Roemeen simpelweg Cluj en de Hongaren houden het nog steeds bij Kolosvár.

Het stadion wat je daar overigens ziet is de Cluj Arena, een vrij nieuw en modern stadion wat pas sinds 2011 in gebruik is. Ook het Roemeense elftal speelt hier geregeld internationale wedstrijden.

Cluj-Napoca has had several names over the years. The Romans gave the name 'Napoca' after the conquest in the second century. Much later, in the 9th century, Hungarian tribes entered the city and called it 'Kolosvár'. Later under Ceausescu's regime it became 'Cluj-Napoca'. Nowadays every Romanian simply says Cluj and the Hungarians still call it Kolosvár.
