This is where the famous "Back to the Future" trilogy clocktower used to be. Right now, it's some kind of park for an upcoming movie.
Although digital clocktowers are certainly less aesthetically pleasing than their analog counterparts.
Has anyone ever thought of doing a play here? If so, why didn't they do it? If not, why not? It's a perfect stage, and the surrounding areas would be ideal for a lobby area, or even alternate stages if the play begged for a "walking theatre" treatment. Yet the guy at the pro shop next door said the only thing they ever do here is "come over and hose down the bums. " There are so many things wrong with that.
The clocktower above the now Brighton Pier (was the Palace Pier).
The clock hands are always at twelve o'clock. So technically its a useless clock.
But I like it. It sticks out among the bright lights of the pier.
The War Memorial Clocktower at Wheelton is a Grade II listed building. A large rectangular panel above the door on the eastern side of the tower contains a metal plate which reads (in capitals) "To commemorate the glorious memory of the men of Heapey and Wheelton who fell in the Great War 1914-1918"
