[Karaj, Alborz, Iran] The dance of three wind turbines generating renewable energym, part of a wind farm in the arid rural landscape of Iran, along the road between Karaj and Qazvin.

Vane: Boon or Bane *My blog post on June 5, 2009
leadmovement.wordpress.com/2009/06/05/vane-boon-or-bane/
Excerpt:
There have been many conflicting views on the aesthetic factor of wind turbines. While others find them utterly ugly and a blight because “they will spoil the view in remote, rural areas”, as noted by Sami Grover of Carrboro, NC, USA and as posted in the readers’ comment box for an on-going survey at TreeHugger (one of my favorite web/blog sites), more people find them elegant and beautiful. Our very own windmills in Bangui, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, have been the subject of countless fascinating photos all over the web. The wind turbines were featured prominently in the WOW Philippines Regine Velasquez tourism campaign which is still being aired on tv, making the town of Banqui a top tourist destination in Ilocos. I, for one, couldn’t resist the urge to participate in the TreeHugger survey. While I agree that they are disastrous to biodiversity, since birds accidentally get caught by the freewheeling vanes once they’re on (though it has been reported that birds have also collided with skyscraper buildings, towers, and aircrafts — more disastrous because they involve the loss of human lives), I also appreciate their beauty — defininitely, better than smog and soot from too much technological advancement. A green business, it helps mitigate the worsening environment situation by lessening the accumulation of greenhouse gases.
Many of the activities and products that make modern human life possible are polluting the world. Even places that are relatively untouched by 21st-century developments experience the effects of pollution.

An electric power line along Highway 87 near Box Elder, Montana.
I'm not sure if Montana has more electrical poles than any other state, or if you just see more of them because of the lack of trees here on the plains, but often they are the only significant feature you see on the vast and open Montana landscape.

This is my entry for RogueOlympics 2021 Round 8, with the topic "Upside Down". The RogueOlympics are a build contest by the RogueBricks Community, with each week featuring a new topic and a part limit of just 101 pieces (which my entry reaches exactly).
I really struggled with the topic this time, but I ultimately settled on the idea of two mirrored versions of a scene and turned to the topic of environmental considerations again. It is a depiction of the reality of energy production and its idealized mirror image up in the sky, symbolizing humanity's striving for cleaner energy and a more sustainable life, a goal that is not yet reached by actual reality (if it ever will be). This way it's also a fitting model for Earth Day, albeit 3 days late.
I myself had at first rather lofty aspirations with the model, trying to build a whole cityscape and maybe putting the mirror image into a lake's reflection rather than the sky. But in reality I quickly turned those aspiations down, concentrating on energy alone. This more focused topic also makes it a neat parable for the "Energiewende" specifically.
This is the view from our flight from Kauai to Maui.
It makes me feel glad whenever I see some progressive states attempting to take advantage of clean energy - and apparently the Island of Maui was taking a lead on such movement for clean energy as well.
From the flight we saw some massive wind turbines - and I did a quick research and apparently some areas of Hawaii are very suitable for wind power generation.
While a lot of Americans, or even people all over the world are a little pessimistic with environmental issues, this was nice to see. Some states are moving forward even if the top of the country does not take a proper lead.

Thank you for viewing my photograph!
Shocking how the rate of technological advancement continues to increase *exponentially*; to prove my point: the first iPhone was released 10 years ago (think about that for a moment...).
Picture as we made our way back home to California from Texas along the I-8.
Literally looks like something you'd expect to see in a sci-fi movie.
Southern California.
***If you click on the map you'll see the number of windmills we drove by.
A towering windmill stands tall against a moody, overcast sky, symbolizing the balance between nature and technology. The dramatic clouds add depth, while the sleek turbine blades capture the essence of clean, renewable energy. This image reflects sustainability, modern engineering, and the power of wind harnessed for a greener future.
