Statue base of Hadrian set in the Theatre of Dionysus on the south slope of the Acropolis, the bilingual epigraphic inscription commemorates Hadrian's election as archon of
Athens in 112/3 AD by the Athenians.
As Emperor, Hadrian was keen to promote Hellenic culture, spending a year in Greece, particularly Athens.
He adorned Athens with public buildings, including a new library and aqueduct, finished the vast temple of Olympian Zeus, and participated in religious festivals
and rituals.
The #chestpiece that he wears is called a #cuirass.
Note the children #Romulus and #Remus that are sucking the wolf. Romulus and Remus are legendary twins who, after being abandoned, were suckled by a wolf and in adulthood founded the city of Rome.
Thus the wolf and twins evokes the memory of (the founding of) Rome.

I stood in the garden following a lecture by geologist Sidney Horenstein, photographing the house and its surroundings. I loved the rich, golden light coming out of the windows around the door... Just after I made this shot, these lights were turned off from indoors; caught them at the last possible moment! (Yes!!!) I'm wondering if these decorative windows date back to the house's construction or whether they were added/replaced later, when the house was restored. They rather remind me of Frank Lloyd Wright's windows...
