SAR Class1 4R (4-8-2) #1723 a mixed traffic locomotive built for SAR operations within the Natal region sits at the Talana Museum. The 14R's were built in the 1913 and upgraded to the appearance seen here in the 1930's. As mentioned the 14R's were mixed traffic locomotives built for the grades of the Natal region. These locomotives saw service up until 1983. #1723 was a lucky survivor as it continued service with a local mining company before arriving here in Dundee, KZN.
