It ends the month of November and with it the zeal of these ungulates. The mountain goats (capra pyrenaica) face hard duels, making the clash of their horns echo between mountains.
Approaching weather system loaded with lightning and tornatic supercells follwed this spectacular display of clouds.

One day I was amazed (and a little freaked out) to observe a dock spider, Canada's largest spider, subduing a large dragonfly. This occurred near my dock. The frantic clattering of wings attracted my attention. The dragonfly was still alive and fighting when I took this shot. The battle lasted a while. Note the left forewing is held out of place, fush forward under the spider's body.
I took many photos, while trying not to wade too close. The spider was wary of me, and I didn't want to distract it. They are normally timid, but it wouldn't let go. Probably one false move could have turned the tables. The dragonfly appeared to be heavier, but the spider was more agile for this kind of combat.
After a few minutes of observation, I left the scene. When I returned later in the day, the spider had moved to a slightly more sheltered place nearby, and dismembered the dragonfly.
Note the spider's excellent camouflage. They don't build webs. They are skilled fishermen, and prefer to eat small fish.
I'm sorting old photos and uploading some interesting ones. This image was posted to Flickr on Jan. 13, 2020.

Contrasting architectural styles of the National September 11 Museum and nearby buildings in New York City
I think that might be the flat rear side of the Cheesegrater in the background but not sure about the two shorter buildings. It was the various clashing diagonals that caught my eye here, I thought it almost looked like a photo collage.

There's something about clouds rolling off mountainous landscapes that freeze me in my tracks. It's as though there's a clash between two opposites and those opposites create something quite perfect to watch. If a mountain was rolling off another mountain I'd be running in the opposite direction. That would not be a perfect situation to watch. Then I'd want to know how a mountain managed to fly. That only happens in the Avatar movie.

This was from a 30-second exposure looking out across the Missouri River just outside of Bismarck, North Dakota last month. It was taken around 2am in the midst of a wonderful barrage of storms.
I finally caved and got a mesh head... And I love, love, love it!
I still look (a LOT) like my 'old avi' and it's so much easier to photograph.

Along the stunning north coast of Cornwall, a short way up from Godrevy lighthouse, the cliffs get very steep and very high, and in places, due to sea and weather erosion, sections of the cliffs are unstable and each year another rocky mass will plummet down into the sea in a vast, dusty roar. It was while I was watching the waves pounding onto a secluded beach far below, and wondering how I could get down to it without breaking my neck or plummeting with a high pitched scream, that I saw these two cormorants standing on the rock. Initially they were poised with their long necks stretched upwards, like two stoic sentinels on guard against the encroaching, gale-tossed sea, eventually, though, they grew bored and proceeded to nonchalantly preen themselves while all around their beseiged outpost their briny world was in chaotic turmoil. It wasn't until I saw two huge waves rushing towards each other, clashing in a frenzied explosion of foam and hissing that I took the shot.
I've posted a few wave shots this time around and they're probably not to everyone's taste but, I love the sea, waves and weather, so...
While visiting family in coastal North Carolina I had an opportunity to get out one morning to try to shoot a coastal sunrise. I went to the beach near a pier but it was so cloudy that the sun did not appear. I took a few shots of the pier and then started driving around. As I was driving around the clouds broke on the coast and the sun came out as a crazy looking thunder storm was approaching. I pulled over and took this shot on the side of the road next to a inland waterway.
Again trying something different. Two plastic cocktail glasses with red and blue coloured water and bouncing one off the other. Using Miops Trigger in sound mode. Background is a projectior screen to enhance the glasses.

Rarely does it happen to be just next to the water and above the clouds at the same time. Few minutes of sunshine during the sunrise were the only ones we got that day. A little cloud that seemed to come straight from the ocean hid the sun for next 36 hours. More: www.kleptography.eu
