A flower atop one of the columns at the peristyle of the House of the Faun (Casa del Fauno), one of the largest and most impressive private residences in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, named after the statue of a dancing faun found there.
The Phu-Khao Thong (Golden Mountain) Chedi is shining bright among the modern skyscrapers in the center of Bangkok.Chedi Phukhao Thong is a steep artificial hill inside the Wat Saket Temple compound. Phu Khao Thong is now a popular Bangkok tourist attraction and has become one of the symbols of the city.
Three photographic exhibitions interested me very much, one international and two by Australian photographers.
"Civilization: The Way We Live Now" is an international photography exhibition of monumental scale, featuring over 200 original photographs by over 100 contemporary photographers from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe.
The exhibition explores photographic representations of life in cities and journeys through the shared experiences of life in the urban environment.
Looking at the phenomenal complexity of urban life in the twenty-first century, Civilizations reflects on the ways in which photographers have documented, and held a mirror up to, the increasingly globalised world around us. The selected works create a picture of collective life around the world and document patterns of mass behaviour.
The two main works shown here are: Australian photographer Simon Terrill's, "Huddle", 2007 (from his work Crowd Theory), and the photo in the lightbox is by Anne Zahalka "Sunday 11.08am" (from her Open House series).
My main aim in these photographs is not to reproduce the artist's work, but rather to give them context in relation to the exhibition.

The ancient site at Kot Diji (Urdu: کوٹ ڈیجی) was the forerunner of the Indus Civilization. The people of this site lived about 3000 BCE. The remains consist of two parts; the citadel area on high ground (about 12 m), and outer area. The Pakistan Department of Archaeology excavated at Kot Diji in 1955 and 1957.
Located about 22 kilometers south of Khairpur in the province of Sindh, Pakistan. The site is situated at the foot of the Rohri Hills where a fort (Kot Diji Fort) was built around 1790 by Talpur dynasty ruler of Upper Sindh, Mir Suhrab who reigned from 1783 to 1830 AD. This fort built on the ridge of a steep narrow hill is well preserved.

The Parthenon (Greek: Παρθενών) is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the maiden goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. Its construction began in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at the height of its power. It was completed in 438 BC, although decoration of the building continued until 432 BC. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered the culmination of the development of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of ancient democracy and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. The Greek Ministry of Culture is currently carrying out a program of selective restoration and reconstruction to ensure the stability of the partially ruined structure. ....

On day four of my train journey across Canada by VIA rail. October 2018. We are seeing lots of snow now.
The window are not very clean so the photos are not that good. Also the train was speeding along at times and really bumpy. I have put all the photos I took on my journey on Flickr as a record of my trip.
