Yet another picturesque scene taken along the Coffin Route above Rydal Water. You can easily get a sense of isolation in the hills but the signs of civilization are never far away. Here, the remains of a dry-stone wall covered with moss, but below is the main road, the A591 running along the lake and a couple of buildings peering from the trees

The archaeological site of Bahrain Fort is one of the largest in Bahrain. It is located on the north coast of the island. The area of this mound is about 400x700 meters and about 8 meters in height.

Qal'at Al-Bahrain site was inscribed on the UNESCO world Heritage list in 2005, based on its outstanding cultural value. As the capital of the ancient Silmun Civilization, the Qal'at Al-Bahrain site represents not only one of the most important ancient civilizations of the region, but also Bahrain's identity as a center of commerce and cultural exchange.

An Islamic fort dating back to the 16th century A.D. dominates the site and may be the location of the old capital of Delmon. It contains remains of cities which were inhabited during many periods, 4000- 5000 years ago. The study of these remains form the foundation of Bahrain's history that has played such a prominent role in Arabian Gulf archaeology.

Excavations by the Danish archaeological expedition have unveiled the remains of buildings of six cities located around the fort.

"The distinctive characteristic of a traditional society is order."

Chichen Itza is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya civilization located in the northern center of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the Yucatán state, present-day Mexico.

Chichen Itza was a major regional focal point in the northern Maya lowlands from the Late Classic through the Terminal Classic and into the early portion of the Early Postclassic period. The site exhibits a multitude of architectural styles, from what is called “Mexicanized” and reminiscent of styles seen in central Mexico to the Puuc style found among the Puuc Maya of the northern lowlands. The presence of central Mexican styles was once thought to have been representative of direct migration or even conquest from central Mexico, but most contemporary interpretations view the presence of these non-Maya styles more as the result of cultural diffusion.

Pen-Menkh was a contemporary of Queen Cleopatra VII and the Roman conquest of Egypt. As one of the high officials, he held the position of the Mayor of Dendera, the capital of the 6th Nome of Upper Egypt, and also he was the royal deputy and priest of Hathor and Horus. This statue is a unique example of the mixing between ancient Egyptian art with its well-established traditions and the Hellenistic one.

Had a mis-judgment the other week ….First one in ages.

I fancied getting out of town for a bit .So I headed for the Moors and a wooded river valley I like very much . Its has a lovely walk I know it well.

Park up by the pub just before you get to the bridge.

Walk upstream on one side , stop and rest when you get to the little footbridge .

Then cross over the river and walk back downstream till you get back to the big bridge.

Over to the pub. …...hey presto! You're back to where you parked the car.

I cant make up my mind as to the exact cause of my misjudgement ….

Is it just that I'm getting older and slower ..

Did I dilly and dally to long taking photos …(could be got new camera to play with)

Maybe it was later in the year than I usually go ,so there was less daylight …

Probably a little of each.

Anyways the resulting misjudgement in timing ,

meant I didn't make it out of the woods before dark. T'is a twilightless , skyless world ,

under the cover of trees in the bottom of a steep sided river valley .

Neck cricking horizons rob you of all sunrise and set.

No time to adjust as day plunges you into straight into night.

The darkness is real dark …...and it comes real fast .

Damn it maxxxi you idiot to get yourself into such a situation ….

Still cant stay here ! nothing to be done ,other than ,

try to wend your way carefully back to the car in the dark .

The sound of running water and the light from a small pocket torch was a blessing...

however the shadows it cast and the sound of wildlife turning to monsters wasn't !!

So you can imagine my relief when I saw , coppery shards of light downstream.

Reflections in the inky black waters of the river ,from a bright light outside the pub .

Yeah Civilization!!!

My heart rejoiced for a few minutes in knowing that it wasn't alone in the dark .................which I thought a little strange ,as the whole point of“going for a walk thing” in the first place was...

Because I felt the need to distance myself ... from civilization!!

Workers who put bricks together to make buildings, something that signifies civilization.

*The Age of Western Civilization.

Civilization approximately makes reference to the capitalist world-wide system from century XVI.

In contrast civilizations refers to characteristics of each religion (or its absence), each state nation, each group or even each person.

If the human beings is complex, they are probably many forms to organize to us.

Each civilization creates its windows.

Each person, hers.

Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, is located about 100 km south of the Peloponnese. Crete was the center of Europe's first advanced civilization, the Minoans, from 3000 to 1400 BC. The Minoan civilization was overrun by the Mycenaean civilization from mainland Greece. Crete was later ruled by Rome, then successively by the Byzantine Empire, Andalusian Arabs, the Byzantine Empire again, the Venetian Republic, and the Ottoman Empire. In 1898 Crete, whose people had for some time wanted to join the Greek state, achieved independence from the Ottomans, formally becoming the Cretan State. Crete became part of Greece in December 1913.

Heraklion is the largest city and the administrative capital of the island of Crete. With a municipal population of about 180.000 it is the fourth largest city in Greece. The greater area of Heraklion has been continuously inhabited since at least 7000 BCE, making it one of the oldest inhabited regions in Europe. As a major center of the Minoan civilization it often considered Europe's oldest city.

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is one of the largest museums in Greeceand the best in the world for Minoan art, as it contains by far the most important and complete collection of artefacts of the Minoan civilization of Crete.

The museum began in 1883 as a simple collection of antiquities; it was about the time when the Minoan civilization was beginning to be rediscovered, and shortly before the first excavations using proper scientific methods. It was also during the period when Crete was a virtually autonomous part of the Ottoman Empire, after the Pact of Halepa of 1878, later followed by the independent Cretan State (1898-1913). The political situation helped to keep Cretan finds on the island during a crucial period of discoveries.

The museum is located in the town centre. It was built between 1937 and 1940 on a site previously occupied by the Roman Catholic monastery of Saint-Francis which was destroyed by earthquake in 1856.

In a class of civilizations, if we're fortunate, the most laid-back one triumphs.
