Entre 2015 y 2017 se desarrolló el Programa Regional de Investigación e Innovación por Cadenas de Valor Agrícola (Priica) en cinco países de Centroamérica y Panamá y en el cual se trabajó bajo el concepto de redes regionales por cultivo: aguacate, papa, tomate y yuca. Con esta iniciativa se buscó que los agricultores tuvieran acceso facilitado a materiales genéticos de alta calidad como los suministrados por el CIAT, en el caso de la yuca. De allí el esfuerzo de varias instituciones para llevar a cada país variedades de alto potencial de rendimiento y mayor calidad nutricional de raíces.
