Trotters, North Dakota

A scene that seems post apocalyptic.

Interestingly there are still quite a few things that would be used to serve refreshments down in the basement. I don't believe the church has been used in many years, yet it appears much the same as when they had their last service. There are a number of dead birds within, and birds have left a lot of deposits. They just don't have any respect.

Wikipedia:

Trotters is an unincorporated community in Golden Valley County, North Dakota, United States. Trotters is located on North Dakota Highway 16, 28.3 miles (45.5 km) north of Beach. The community did not receive telephone service until 1972, and Highway 16, its only road, was paved in the 1980s.

Leonard Hall, who moved to Trotters in 1956, was the town's only resident for much of the twentieth century. Hall was the postmaster of the Trotters post office, which opened in 1904[3] and served area ranchers as far as 28 miles (45 km) away from Trotters, as few other post offices operated in the region.[5] The post office also served as the town's grocery store and gas station, and Hall lived in the back of the building. Two other buildings, a disused church and an empty abandoned structure, also stood in the town.[6] The post office closed in 1995 when Hall's poor health caused him to retire as postmaster.

This amazing church is a well known landmark in Reykjavik. It was impossible to fit it into the frame as it is so wide and even stepping back was impossible as there was a sculpture in the way!! There was a wedding party in the doorway -the poor bride must have been freezing as a photographer tried to capture her veil blowing in the wind - especially as that night it was completely still - most unusual!

Pont-Rouge, Québec - Novembre 2017.

There has been a church there since the 12th century, but this church itself was built during the 14th & 15th centuries, and restored in the 19th Century.

Buried side by side in the churchyard are two railwaymen, engine driver Thomas Scaife and fireman Joseph Rutherford, who both lost their lives when the boiler of a locomotive exploded in Bromsgrove station on 10 November 1840. Their gravestones both show reliefs of steam locomotives.

Christ Church Cathedral (or, more formally, The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity) is the cathedral of the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough and the cathedral of the Ecclesiastical province of the United Provinces of Dublin and Cashel in the Church of Ireland. It is situated in Dublin, Ireland, and is the elder of the capital city's two medieval cathedrals, the other being St Patrick's Cathedral. (Wikipedia)

St. Helen's Church Ranworth stands in a commanding position overlooking the River Bure. Panoramic views of the Norfolk Broads can be experienced from the top of its tower. The mainly fourteenth and fifteenth century building contains three treasures of international significance. The painted rood screen, cantor's desk and the Ranworth Antiphoner (illuminated liturgical book) date from the fifteenth century. The rood screen is one of the finest examples in East Anglia. The Antiphoner, probably intended for display as much as liturgical use, is the only example in England to have returned to its pre-Reformation church. The cantor's desk remains in weekly use as a lectern

A reformed church in Westerlo, NY.

This church was first mentioned in the 13th century. In 1367 there was a terrible fire, and the current building was built between 1451 and 1470.

The Sint-Aldegondiskerk (the church of Saint Aldegondis) is right in the centre of the village of Deurle. On the other side of the street the vicarage has survived, and there is a very popular restaurant and tearoom, called "D'Ouwe Hoeve" (= the Old Farmhouse) facing the church. It is a picturesque village.

Back to the church: the oldest recordings tell us it originated in between 1039 and 1121. A walled churchyard surrounds the church, and you can walk up a path that follows this wall on the outside. The path is named after Cyriel Buysse, a famous writer.

One of the beautiful windows in St. Fillans church, Aberdour. The way the light was cast on the bare stone walls was stunning.

Probably one of the best examples of a Norman church in East Anglia.

Nothing remains of the original chapel at ease; work began on the present building around 1560 when the locals, fed up with the long trek to Greystoke for the full set of sacraments, petitioned for a local church. The building as it exists today, dedicated in 1580, has had additions and alterations but retains the character of the Elizabethan structure. Visually , in its setting, the church is simply stunning.

Note - Door a tad stiff to open needs a strong push.

N.B When they eventually got their new church not only did they have to pay for a new Priest but also continue to pay a tithe to the Greystoke church. Religion didn't come cheap in those days.

The San Francisco de Asís Mission Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, was built between 1772 and 1816 by Native Americans under direction of Franciscans. It is a well-preserved example of Spanish colonial architecture blending with native building techniques. It is a National Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. The church is still active and has been the subject of numerous restorations and updates over the years. Annually, the congregation re-muds the structure.

The church was the subject of several paintings by Georgia O'Keefe and photographed by Ansel Adams. It continues to be a popular subject for painters and photographers.
