This complex scene invites the viewer to look closely for clues that the view is really upwards. (I can find only two visual clues: the fragment of suspended log and the short length of suspended metal strap.

We reached York, the final stage on our road trip, late on a gloomy afternoon. To reach the minster we had to walk through the museum gardens. The ruins of St Mary's Abbey are spread throughout the gardens.

The place was practically wiped out by allied 'carpet bombing' in 1944, so it's good to see its ancient church at least seeming unscathed. I've posted two taken on this occasion.
Built as a private mortuary chapel for the earls of Moray in 1731. Adjacent to Donibristle House, in the midst of a modern housing estate. Nine of the earls of Moray are buried here.
