(Formerly St Paul's, Anglican Church, Redfern)

These small sculptures carved out of Sydney sandstone adorn the walls beside the stained glass windows. Each forms a natural end to the decorative sandstone border surmounting the top of each window.

View from under the church chandelier on the ceiling interior of the Northern Chapel of St. Basil’s Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Martyrs Cyprian and Justina (commemorated on October 2 (old style) / 15 (new style)) is decorated with image of Our Lady “The Unburnt Bush” (Neopalimaya Kupina The chapel built like a tower is quite small by footage, but very tall. Its walls painted with beautiful frescoes based on scenes from the life of Cyprian and Justina. The ancient Orthodox Church processional banners, small bronze chandelier (panikadilo), narrow lantern windows and top of a tiny iconostasis as details of its interior also compels attention on this picture.

Bristol - St Mary Redcliffe church.

Wills (Memorial) Tower - built by the sons in memory of their father, the first Bristol Uni Chancellor, Henry Overton Wills - it houses the Faculty of Law and the Department of Earth Sciences, as well as the Law and Earth Sciences libraries. Started in 1915, the WWI put it on hold and it was opened in 1925; said to be the last Gothic building erected in England. It is quite a landmark, esp high up on Park St! The Wills were tobacco magnates who had Europe's largest factory in the City; an amalgamation of several UK tobacco companies became Imperial Tobacco, and the HQ is located in the City.

The settlement Likhachev no longer exists.

Closed in 1930s, and subsequently all but destroyed. The lack of debris suggests that the church building may have been cannibalized for its building materials.

Village Podzhigorodovo, Klin Raion, Moscow Oblast, Russia

The church was built in 1778-1783 by two brothers Yurevyh, local noblemen who had a large manor here. It's believed that the architect was the famous Russian architect Vasily Bazhenov. Unusual two-story church with the winter church on the first floor and the summer church on the second floor. The exterior was plastered and whitewashed in 1906.

The last owner of the Podzhigorodovo manor was nobleman Vladimir Sokolov. He was a revolutionary and his party nickname was Volsky. Vladimir Lenin visited Sokolov before the 1917 revolution. There's a photo of Lenin playing chess with Sokolov in his Podzhigorodovo manor house.

Olga remembers climbing the bell tower as a child. The church was used then to store chemical fertilizer. She still recalls the smell of the fertilizer and the treacherous circular staircase.

The church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992. Services are presently held in the first floor winter church. The second floor summer church has not been restored. Like many rural churches in Russia, the Church of Archangel Michael is undergoing slow restoration and still dominates the surrounding landscape.

The printed sign to the right of the door is new (since Sep 2009) and reads:

The Church of the Sign has been transferred to the Orthodox Church and will be restored. Protected by the state.

Its destruction is a felony and is punishable by law.
