Holy Cross Church has been the hub of the Christian faith in Binstead for at least 1000 years; a place where many local people have worshipped, prayed, been baptized, married and buried through the ages. It holds and keeps alive the social memory of the parish.
Church Of The Nativity Of The Blessed Virgin Mary. Lunacharsky Village, Lopatinskiy District, Penza Region. Built in 1761.
This amazing church is a well known landmark in Reykjavik. It was impossible to fit it into the frame as it is so wide and even stepping back was impossible as there was a sculpture in the way!! There was a wedding party in the doorway -the poor bride must have been freezing as a photographer tried to capture her veil blowing in the wind - especially as that night it was completely still - most unusual!
This church is located on the edge of Little Washington, Virginia. "In July 1749, a 17-year old George Washington noted in his journal, “In the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . I laid off a town.” The young surveyor, assisted by two chain men, laid out the town of Washington in the same five-block by two-block grid that exists today.
The town’s history and architecture has elevated it to the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.
It's very much reminiscent of a quaint English village and it's where Anita and I go to see the architecture, the well laid out gardens and to watch the exceedingly rich stroll about the town. A meal at the Inn of Little Washington would run between $250 and $350.00!! So we just look at the outside. LOL
Another super rainy day but we were blessed not to have had all the rain come in the form of snow. But it did make it hard to get any good photos between the pounding rain and the car windshield wipers. Hoping for better next Sunday.
Built 1929, Ventura California.

Kościół św. Jana i Katarzyny w Świerzawie/St John and Kathrine's church in Świerzawa; the 13th century; Lower Silesia; Poland
Tomorrow... this is where I'd be... My best friend's wedding... and I am the Best Man!
Just finished my speech... so wish me luck! :)
The church dates from the first half of the 10th century. The richly themed wall decorations depict scenes from the life of Jesus, Mary and St. Georgeos. The chapels of Hagios Eustethios and Hagios Daniel are very close to each other. The tomb and prayer sections are worth seeing and date back to the 10th-11th century. Although three separate tunnels have to be passed through in order to reach the prayer hall of the church; the tunnels and the church are completely rock-carved spaces. The reason why the Mirrored Church, whose original name is Theotokos Hagios Georgeosloannes Church, is so called; is the perfect symmetry of the mutual geometric shapes on its walls.
This church was first mentioned in the 13th century. In 1367 there was a terrible fire, and the current building was built between 1451 and 1470.
Located above Stepstone Creek in rural Pendleton County Kentucky..now named Immaculate Conception Church. Getting moldy and has a badly decayed foundation. The former community of Carntown was located at the confluence of Stepstone Creek and the Ohio River. The community was torn down when the huge Black River Limestone Mine was built in the 1960's.
The Sint-Aldegondiskerk (the church of Saint Aldegondis) is right in the centre of the village of Deurle. On the other side of the street the vicarage has survived, and there is a very popular restaurant and tearoom, called "D'Ouwe Hoeve" (= the Old Farmhouse) facing the church. It is a picturesque village.
Back to the church: the oldest recordings tell us it originated in between 1039 and 1121. A walled churchyard surrounds the church, and you can walk up a path that follows this wall on the outside. The path is named after Cyriel Buysse, a famous writer.
