Mulled Wine
-PookyH-
Christmas tastes of wine that’s mulled,
As I sip it, dreams unfold,
Of Christmas past and Christmas present,
The thoughts it brings are only pleasant,
Time with friends and family too.
Happy times with the chosen few,
With whom I’ve shared my Christmas times,
Are brought to mind as I sip mulled wine.

I want to say "THANK YOU" to all my Flickr photographer friends for stopping by and taking time in leaving such kind words! I very much enjoy viewing all your great work too! I wish you all the best in health and hope the New Year rewards you in great photo opportunities!
Note, Photo taken and in Lightroom ( where I do 99.9% of all my editing), I painted the hat on the Junco and than used the Topaz plug in Simplyfier to add a slight painterly effect. Than back in Lightroom I used the watermark editing tool, where I typed the Christmas wishes!
Looking out of my Mom's window at the pretty Christmas decorations & lights! Best Wishes to you all my vfriends =)
macro mondays: celebration...working on decorating this weekend. A couple of golden ornaments.

My friend, Fred, in his home surrounded by his holiday decorations, including a rotating Christmas tree.
Fred is an outstanding photographer.
Then and now. I haven’t done one of these images in a long time so here we go.
The black-and-white photo is dated 1996 with our two boys and their train going around the tree. Here sits our tree in the same spot as of last night so many of those ornaments that were on years ago are still on this tree except what the boys have taken their way.
A box of eight whisky and vodka samples gifted from our over the fence neighbours for a Merry Christmas. I should add they are miniature bottles.
Perfect as today WAH is visiting the group Cheers!! to raise a glass and toast another year on the good ship WAH. Cheers Rob!
Now where did I put my glass.
In 1847, a confectioner called Tom Smith decided he wanted to introduce Londoners to the French bonbon, a sugared almond wrapped in a twist of waxed paper, which is still widely available in French patisseries today. To make his version more individual, Smith also included a love motto in each packet.
These proved to be a real winner, and over the next few years, Smith added a small gift and eventually introduced the ‘crack’ element, calling his treats ‘Bangs of Expectation’. Smith’s son was later inspired by paintings of crown-like headgear worn at the Roman festival of Saturnalia to introduce the paper hat, and a Christmas tradition was born.
By the 1930s, the motto inside crackers was replaced with a joke or a funny limerick, and manufacturers perfected the cheap production of the ‘crack’ element by using strips of chemically impregnated paper that react with friction to create the now-familiar bang.
Traditionally, everyone should open their crackers together round the table by crossing hands and all pulling at the same time, and the paper hat should stay on for the whole of Christmas Day.
It is estimated that nearly 160 million crackers will be pulled this Christmas. Many will be the modest versions, which include the combs, whistles, napkin rings and other small presents, but there are also luxury versions on the market, which elevate the Christmas cracker to something really special, with gifts of fine fragrances, specialist chocolates and even expensive jewellery.
Whichever type of cracker is chosen, they’re guaranteed to bring smiles and laughter to the dinner table this Christmas.

It's common this time of year to feel a bit out of sorts. Many of us feel pressure during the holidays. The demands of gift giving and especially family engagements, which can be a double-edged sword for many. For some, there's family you want to see, and other family you'd prefer not to see. And even with the good family, there is sometimes a limit. Beyond that is the sense that somehow it used to be better than it is now. Rightly or wrongly, the past always seems to look better when making such comparisons. It does become more difficult to maintain that childlike love of all things Christmas. The magic tends to fade over the years; and the shiny tinsel seems to tarnish. On top of all of that is the feeling of being teleported into the new year. Time is so fleeting that it gives the impression that days and weeks are slipping by without much meaning. It's a lot to take in. I've gradually come to terms with these thoughts as the years have advanced on me. There is some solace in knowing that I'm not alone, that it's this way for many of us, maybe close to all of us at least at one time or another. One thing I've noticed is the sudden feeling off relief that settles over me with early January. It's partly a sense that it wasn't really all that bad after all. The key to copying with the stress is maintaining that early-January awareness right now. Really, we can all make it through this.
Native to Mexico, Sedum rubrotinctum or Jelly Bean Plants have jelly bean-shaped leaves (or beans) that are green in the shade and turn red at the tips when exposed to full sun. They sprout bright yellow, star-shaped flowers from between the leaves in mid-spring. Other common names are Pork and Beans and Christmas Cheer.
Fancied this "lawn ornament" while passing by the other night,..the bike is real and simply wrapped with LED Christmas lights... I stopped the car and took the shot...
Simple but effective,...it caught my eye half a block away LOL!!!

I am in the process of opening up my own portrait studio out of which I can offer Pet Portrait Photo Services.
Building my portfolio for marketing, today my Super Trooper "Barney" had to model my recently arrived Christmas Decoration for me.
For first time Studio Work, I am quite pleased with the outcome :) More practice shoots to come, before I begin 2026 with hopefully a new and successful business budding from my place! Wish me luck!

Today, it is common to see beautifully rendered buildings to represent a village in a snowy winter as part of Christmas decoration. This is the ca1920 edition. These are part of a family set of small cardboard buildings that have been handed down to my wife. Thay are all marked "JAPAN" on the bottom.

It's nice to cheer things up with some pretty lights and a warm fire.
Also down the road from us is this more lower class home, also dressed for the season.
Whatever your budget, enjoy the season!!

This was my first attempt at incoporating flash in candid street work, shooting my friend Spencer Lancaster. He is a cool person who makes music with his hands..it really is pretty awesome the sounds he can do..like a one man band.
One of the best parts of shooting on the streets daily is that I meet incredible people like Spencer.
PS Happy Holidays! I love his little santa Hat ;-)
Just spreading some holiday joy. From our family to yours.
Butt Seriously, Madison is the brain child behind this, as I have been informed, new Christmas tradition of wearing matching pj's. What the heck. Why not. Share the love everyone. B
