Many years ago my parents returned from China full of memories and gifts. Every time I hold these cloisonné chopsticks, I'm transported back in time. I can almost hear their voices as they shared stories about their great adventures.

Het vuil op mijn sensor is mij bekend. Volgende week ga ik hem schoon laten maken. Normaal niet zo overduidelijk te zien, maar met macro zie je alles.

Macro Mondays Theme: Five

A black-chinned hummingbird works his way methodically through a series of flowers.

A female ae’o deftly plucks a minnow from a shallow brackish pond with its elongated, slender bill. Morning backlighting makes the long, thin, pink legs appear to almost fluoresce. The ae’o, or Hawaiian stilt, is a non-migratory, endemic subspecie (Himantopus mexicanus knudseni). It feeds on fish and arthropods in shallow shoreline ponds and wetlands. Though often seen in the main Hawaiian archipelago, ae’o are listed as endangered since their range and abundance have diminished with habitat loss and predation by introduced rats, mongoose, egrets, and feral cats.

A Christmas present. They look cool, black with turquoise tips I placed them on newly bought glitter foam (see what I did here?) because one or two Flickr friends kept mentioning it

HMM and a great new year!

"Chopsticks" (original name "The Celebrated Chop Waltz") is a simple, widely known waltz for the piano. Written in 1877, it is the only published piece by the British composer Euphemia Allan (under the pen name Arthur de Lulli). Allan—whose brother, Mozart Allan, was a music publisher—was sixteen when she composed the piece, with arrangements for solo and duet. The title "Chop Waltz" comes from Allan's specification that the melody be played in two-part harmony with both hands held in a vertical orientation, little fingers down and palms facing each other, striking the keys with a chopping motion.

The similar "The Coteletten Polka" also was first heard in 1877, with the piano collection Paraphrases elaborating on the theme by 1879.

Red chopsticks surrounding the metal end of a black chopstick!

For some reasons, the snowy egret's beak reminded me of chopsticks, the way it's grabbing the fish.

This Wilson’s snipe made me wonder what it would be like to live with chopsticks on my face. A strange thought, I know. Seriously though, look how far away their “lips” are from their face!
