Kinda like this tail-end view...first time I've shot one this way.
Wanna know something funny? (Ironic? I don't really know.) I have been literally obsessed with helicopters since I was a kid. Bought toy ones, made paper ones, cobbled together a bunch of lumber to make a helicopter with a main rotor and a joystick...there was a book in our elementary school library on helicopters and every time we went to the library I would check it out and re-read the entire damn thing! Finally the teacher told me that I could not check out the helicopter book anymore...UNLESS...I also checked out another book each time and read it too, and to prove to her that I did she would quiz me on the other book to make sure that I had indeed read it, a bargain which I kept.
Got older...started photographing helicopters...
For all of this obsession, I've never been up for a ride in a stinkin' helicopter! Why is that??

How cool is this? Mains Farm Wigwams camp in Stirlingshire, near the Trossachs (gorgeous part of Scotland where the lowland and the highlands meet) . Part of the trend for "glamping" (glamorous camping), they offer some - as their name suggests - wigwams as chalets and also this rather unusual bit of holiday accommodation - a retired Royal Navy Sea King helicopter, refitted inside into a unique holiday chalet! Seriously cool!!! And set in a glorious part of the country, Trossachs to one side, or sit in the cockpit of an evening and watch the setting sun play over the back of the Campsie Hills.
Tara Katuwal, a relative of Nepalese Forest and Land Conservation Minister Gopal Rai, is consoled by the other well-wishers of the family at Tirbhuvan International Airport on Wednesday Sept.27, 2006 during the bodies of the 24 passengers of chopper crash was brought to the capital abroad a Nepal Army helicopter. Minister Rai along with his wife and other five Nepalese and 17 foreign officials and diplomats died in the Russian-made helicopter of Shree Airlines chartered by the World Wildlife Fund that crashed on Sept.23 soon after taking-off from remote mountainous district of Ghunsa, Taplejung.

Chopper doesn't handle it well when he's not the cutest one on the scene, so here he's trying to doll it up and look a little less old.

Stikfas custom by Jan Calleja. Made from a T-rex Stikfas kit, 2 Stikfas Alpha males, a mini stikfas bear, epoxy and lots of scratch materials. All joints are working Stikfas joints (all 20 of them), except 3 which are located in the tail. Some joints are supported by scratch made working pistons because of the load they carry. Wings are made from stikfas joints, stikfas plastic rods, styrene sheet and epoxy.
Inspired by DISCOVERY channel's OC Choppers' designs and other Big Bike shows on TURBO ( and my daughter's broken T-rex stikfas), Jurassic Chopper is a concept Dragon/Mecha-Chopper.

12 days, a dozen glacial river crossings, moraine hiking, arctic quick sand trekking, bog trotting, rock jumping...1.5 days and 30 km to the finish line...unshowered and completely motivated...and then we get the news... Its chopper time.

The chopper arrived when I came home. An ambulance was already on the scene. Then a policecar came. Everybody went out. Some went into the house across the street. Then nothing happened for a long time and I went in for dinner.
Suddenly the ambulance left. Then the chopper left. Excitement. Sensation. But, what happened.
