North Beach neighborhood - Sentinel Building with Cafe Zoetrope (Francis Ford Coppola bought the building & opened the cafe, which is named after his film studio). Pyramid Building towering in the distance. This area was once known as "Sydney Town" but eventually became better known by the term "Barbary Coast".

Over Grant Avenue, in the vibrant heart of San Francisco's Chinatown, a cascade of Chinese lanterns creates a canopy of color.

A pretty unusual sight during the pandemic: taken in early afternoon ,.,,,no people in sight (Chinatown is normally packed with a constant stream of people on the sidewalks). A lone cat relaxing on the sidewalk, something that would be impossible to do in normal daytime, since a constant stream of people would be thronging here.

In 1856 ― before the Civil War, before California became a state, before the signing of the Chinese Exclusion Act, before the advent of refrigeration ― Mow Lee began making Cantonese-style preserved meats in Chinatown. Six generations later, its cured traditional meat, is still the best in the city.
