Built in 1790, First Congregational Church and Meetinghouse (Church of Christ; Townshend Church) sits on the green in the picturesque of Townshend Vermont. The church is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Townshend. Major fires in 1886, 1894, 1896, and 1918 destroyed much of the center of Town and the buildings there are relatively recent in construction in relation to that of the church and the founding of the town. Many of the buildings in the quaint town date from the 1890's -1920's because of the fire history. The Church fortunately was set away from the other buildings and survived. The Town of Townshend was chartered in 1753 as one of the New Hampshire Land Grants. It was named for the notorious Englishman, Charles Townshend, who was most notable for his fondness for taxing the colonies. As the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the British government, he proposed and endorsed several pieces of legislation passed by the Parliament to raise tax revenue from the colonies. His most infamous tax, arguably, was the tax on tea that helped to push the colonies into declaring independence and was the basis of the Boston Tea Party in 1773.
Like all New England communities the early settlers spent their time and lives farming less than ideal soils and terrain. In the late the 1700's manufacturing, retail, and hospitality related concerns began to appear and flourish. The nearby village of West Townshend was by far the center of economic and agricultural activity in the earlier years. Periodic flooding on the West River also affected the towns. A major change to the occurred in 1959-1961 with the construction of the Townshend Dam for flood control purposes. The resulting lake flooded much of West Townshend and eliminated many of the prime properties that were important to the earlier economic development of the area. The village of Townshend remained and some of the businesses relocated here.
The church lies on the north side of the town green near the junction of VT 30 and VT 35 in downtown Townshend. When looking at the common one notices there is one big tree as the size one would expect on a green this old but the rest are much smaller. Turns out that when the movie "Funny Farm" with Chevy Chase was filmed in Townshend, the film crew accidentally killed all but one of the trees on the Townshend Common when they colored the leaves to make it look as if it was mid-autumn. This resulted in the re-planting of the most of the trees. (oops!) Today, the one tree that survived the damage sits in the the Common, surrounded by much shorter, newer trees. Who would expect a little Hollywood history in the village of Townshend?
The quaint wooden church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
On January 12, 2005, it was announced that Disney hired screenwriters Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal to write a sequel to Tron. In 2008, director Joseph Kosinski negotiated to develop and direct "TR2N", described as "the next chapter" of the 1982 film and based on a preliminary teaser trailer shown at that year's San Diego Comic-Con, with Lisberger co-producing. Filming began in Vancouver, British Columbia in April 2009. During the 2009 Comic-Con, the title of the sequel was revealed to be changed to Tron Legacy. The second trailer (also with the "Tron Legacy" logo) was released in 3D with Alice In Wonderland. A third trailer premiered at Comic-Con 2010 on July 22.

* Mark Valley as Christopher Chance – An ex-assassin formerly employed by the Old Man, who became a security specialist/private contractor/mercenary-for-hire helping those in need. He took the name from the previous Christopher Chance (Lee Majors). His real name abandoned by him as a child, Chance has a dark and mysterious past, beginning with his recruitment by the Old Man and training into one of the world's greatest assassins. Despite being given the Old Man's true name as his own (he is referred to as "Junior") and being selected to succeed him as leader of the organization, Chance instead broke ranks, fled, and taking up the name and mantle of Christopher Chance, started his life again. Officially, he is listed as "John Doe", with the name "Christopher Chance" amongst his many aliases.
* Chi McBride as Detective Laverne Winston – A former police officer with the San Francisco Police Department who is now Chance's business partner. Winston left the force after the Katherine Walters mission "to do what was right. But no B.S., no egos in the way". Outwardly, Guerrero looks weak and nerdy, but truly he is highly intelligent, vicious, deadly but truly loyal to his friends. He is also a family man, with a child of his own. He helps Chance and Winston in their missions by using his underworld contacts.

Taken at Old Tucson Studios in Tucson Arizona February 4, 2010.
Over 300 films and TV shows have been filmed at Old Tucson and is a popular attraction. In fact it was voted the "Best Western Movie Set" by True West Magazine. We're talking about John Wayne movies like Rio Bravo, El Dorado and even the Ronald Reagan's movie The Last Outpost. This mission was featured in Three Amigos starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.

Magruder's in Chevy Chase, a recent fall day.
I have never shopped at a Magruders, as I do not live near one. However, as I wander the streets and businesses in Chevy Chase usually someone ends up saying something about it in passing. Whether the opinion is good or bad, I can never tell. However, it does seem to have it's own little bit of the communiity's mind share.
Kansas State University student Jill Seiler listens to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack's answer to her question at the National 4-H Youth Center in Chevy Chase, MD, on Monday, March 26, 2012. "For almost 100 years, USDA and 4-H have partnered to produce some of our nation's best and brightest, including farmers and ranchers who have supported the American economy and put food on our tables," Vilsack said. "You all are tomorrow's leaders. We need you to think big, innovate and help tackle the important challenges standing between us, a stronger middle class and a stronger nation." Chevy Chase on the red carpet at the 62nd Annual Academy Awards, 3/26/90
I don't think I've heard anybody EVER say anything positive about Chevy Chase.
I've never officially met him but I've been around him many times over the years to see how he treats people. (That's why I never wanted to meet him.)
Small anecdote: On Friday night September 17, 1993 I was having dinner with friends at the original Spago in Hollywood when Chevy Chase came in asking for a table. Chase was dressed in a jogging suit and was all sweaty, like he had been jogging by and decided to "stop in" on a sold out weekend night where everyone else was dressed up. They gave him a tiny table in Siberia by the restroom door. He complained loudly (DYKWIA - "don't you know who I am?) but they wouldn't move him to a better table. Haha. This was during the very brief period (three weeks) his talk show was on the air. To name-drop further, the next day I was at the Emmy Awards rehearsal and told this story to Jay Leno, who chuckled. It's some comfort to know Chevy gets what he deserves, at least sometimes.

12/06/09 – Day 340 of 365
Every year, we watch "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" about 3 or 4 times! So this is what Clark said to Rusty when he hands him a huge tangled up ball of Christmas lights! I have a few shots that really show how big the ball of lights really are but I liked this shot the best (it is the classic Jackie expression)! I'll post a picture of "the ball" too!
When I saw Nicole on my street, right across from my building, I new immediately I would have to ask if she would be my stranger. And I actually approached her first and then went to get my camera. I loved the idea of capturing the artist, the work and the subject in the one shot.
As you can see from her beautiful work, she has made "something" of these store fronts that I have never been able to capture through a photo.
She has been painting professionally for 5 years but has been an artist her whole life -- true with most artists. She does mostly portraits but takes advantage of the good weather to get landscapes and street scenes when she can. You should visit her studio above Circle Yoga in Chevy Chase! I will.

Clark (Chevy Chase) has a Frenchman use the camcorder to tape the Griswolds near a water fountain, but the Frenchman steals the camera, with a videotape inside of it.
Betty Sample Williams (1883-1957) opened the Purple Iris Inn around 1917 in her frame farmhouse at 32nd and Rittenhouse Streets NW in Chevy Chase DC. It was part of the teahouse craze of the 1910s and 1920s. In August 1917, the Washington Herald commented that the inn was “much in vogue with official women in Washington, who motor out to the Inn to play cards and either precede the game by luncheon or follow it with tea. Sometimes they are joined by additional guests for the cup of tea, and motor back to Washington in a party in the cool of the evening.” Horseback riders would also stop for tea here.
Williams sold the inn to open the White Peacock Tea House at 812 17th Street NW downtown in 1922. The inn was acquired by Berthold N. Colle (1893-1965), a native of Luxembourg, who ran the restaurant until it closed around 1950. The inn was then torn down and replaced by three smaller houses on the same lot.

I painted this on a big piece of plywood, cut holes in it for people to put their faces in and attached 2x4s to the back to make it stand up.
American Dad! is a satirical American cartoon series owned by Underdog Productions and Fuzzy Door Productions and produced in association with 20th Century Fox Television.
It was created by Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, as well as two former Family Guy writers, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman. The pilot episode aired in the United States on Fox on February 6, 2005, thirty minutes after the end of Super Bowl XXXIX; the regular series began May 1, 2005, after the season premiere of Family Guy. American Dad follows the events of CIA agent Stan Smith and his family. Unlike Family Guy, American Dad! does not contain cutaway gags, instead using situational humor and non sequiturs.
The series has completed its fifth season, which premiered on September 27, 2009 and ended on May 16, 2010. It has been officially renewed for a sixth season; renewals are made ahead of time in order to facilitate the extensive production line of animated shows.
Red vs. Blue, often abbreviated as RvB, is a set of related comic science fiction video series created by Rooster Teeth Productions and distributed through the Internet and DVD. The story centers on two opposing teams of soldiers fighting a civil war in the middle of a desolate box canyon (Blood Gulch), in a parody of first-person shooter (FPS) games, military life, and science fiction films. Initially intended to be a short series of six to eight episodes, the project quickly and unexpectedly achieved significant popularity following its Internet premiere on April 1, 2003. The series introduced people to Halo, so Microsoft-the owner of Halo- offered to pay Rooster Teeth to continue production of Red vs. Blue; Rooster Teeth therefore decided to continue the story. The fifth and final season of the original Red vs. Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles series ended with episode 100, released on June 28, 2007. Three mini-series—Out of Mind, Recovery One, and Relocated—and the full-length Reconstruction, Recreation and Revelation series have extended the plot.
Red vs. Blue emerged from Burnie Burns' voice-over-enhanced gameplay videos of Bungie Studios' FPS video game Halo: Combat Evolved. The series is primarily produced using the machinima technique of synchronizing video footage from a game to pre-recorded dialogue and other audio. Footage is mostly from the multiplayer modes of Halo: Combat Evolved and its sequels, Halo 2 and Halo 3, on the Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360 video game consoles. Minute sections of the series were also achieved using the Microsoft PC version of the same game.
Both within the machinima community and among film critics, Red vs. Blue has been generally well-received. Praised for its originality, the series has won four awards at film festivals held by the Academy of Machinima Arts & Sciences. It has been credited with bringing new popularity to machinima, helping it to gain more mainstream exposure, and attracting more people to the art form. Graham Leggat, former director of communications for Lincoln Center's film society, described Red vs. Blue as "truly as sophisticated as Samuel Beckett". While special videos continue to be released online, the completed series is also available on DVD, making the series one of the first commercially released and successful machinima products. Rooster Teeth has created videos, some under commission from Microsoft, for special events, and Red vs. Blue content is included with the Legendary Edition of Halo 3.
