I have only one outlet in my garage and it's located on an inside wall right next to my electrical panel. Plugging the EVSE in at that location would have been fine for those times when the car is in the garage. The charge cord simply would not reach for those times when the car is outside.
The solution was to run an extension cord out near the door. I decided to use a 25 foot 12 gauge cord and mount the EVSE out near the door. Frankly, I needed a cord out there to power the wall hung vacuum cleaner.
From this location, the charge cord easily reaches the car in or out of the garage and doesn't interfere with door closure.
Someday I would like to install permanent 220v and 115v outlets in this area.
The stock EVSE takes about 12 hours to recharge a depleted battery. This is typically not a problem when charging overnight. A 220v charger only takes 4-1/2 hours which could be handy from time to time.
EVSE = Electric Vehicle Service Equipment.
We often refer to these as “chargers” but in reality they are simply a connection between an electrical power source, the cars builtin charger, and the cars computer which regulates how much is needed to recharge the battery.

Shot for the Community Environmental Council. The car is a Chevy Volt, electric hybrid which the owner powers via his solar panels on his roof. In the top photo he is pictured at a charging station in Goleta CA.
EQ is the same for both: Profoto 7b with 1 head in a 5' octa, camera left - triggered with pocket wizards. In the top photo the octa is probably 10' away, about 20-30˚ left of camera, and in the bottom photo, it is close to the cam left and just out of the frame.

Two of my many favorite pastimes…. driving my electric car and flying my quadcopter. I noticed on the PLUGSHARE app that there are Level 2 car chargers at the Red Run Mennonite Church so I swung by to check them out. As luck would have it, there was a nice wide open field right next to the parking lot so I brought out my DJI SPARK and took it for a spin. Captured some aerial images while I was at it.
Frankly, I was impressed with what the R.R.M.C. has done. Not only were they up with the times by having FOUR chargers but I noticed solar panels on the roof.
I visited the R.R.M.C. website when I got home and enjoyed reading about how they came to be on this particular site. It’s an interesting read, here is a link…. redrunmc.wordpress.com/history/
Thank you R.R.M.C.

A photo-a-day for A Hobbling A Day.
The company provides two reserved charging stations for electric cars in this lot. The other car I took a picture of is on the other end of the lot. There is one space open in the south lot. Then the company is going to have to provide more reserved spaces.
The saying goes something like this, “He who dies with the most toys, WINS!”. For some it’s a Corvette, for others it’s a vintage car, a boat or even an airplane. For me it’s an electric car. No, not one of Elon Musk’s Tesla Model 3’s but a Chevy VOLT “Plug-In Hybrid”. Did I want a Tesla, you bet ya but the idea of waiting 1-1/2 years to get one doesn’t sit well with us older guys. Besides, the Chevy Volt has more than enough tech to satisfy the GEEK in me as I experience living with and driving an electric car. Stay tuned for more about the journey as I go forward….
