Jinxiucheng is a new "country resort" only a little more than a half-hour south of Chengdu's city center. The developers the Xinghui Group 星慧集团 leased the collective land use (forest and farm) rights of 兴隆镇 瓦窑村四组 (Wayao VIllage Section 4, Xinglong Township) for a period of 22 years and built a resort hotel, restaurant, hiking paths, gardens and fish ponds.

The Chengdu Panda Sanctuary was founded in 1987, with six giant pandas rescued from the wild. Today the captive population has increased to over a hundred from that founding population of only six.
