Abandon Chelsea Motel along US Route 66. Before the interstate by passed it, I bet this was full every night. Although abandon, the property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places

Last weekend, finally out of lockdown, I ventured out to visit friends living near Chelsea Harbour. Before the pandemic, I was often out late in this area with my tripod - here is one of those shots.

The Chelsea Physic Garden was established as the Apothecaries' Garden in London, England, in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries to grow plants to be used as medicines

December 2021. New York City. After many years of renovations, the hotel reopened in 2022.

From the wikipedia: Over the years, the Chelsea has housed many notables, among them Mark Twain, Dylan Thomas, Arthur Miller, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, Arthur C. Clarke, Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Virgil Thomson.

The original bridge dated from 1858.

The current bridge was opened in 1937 by the Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King.

At the bottom is Grosvenor Rail Bridge, opened in 1860.

At the top is the Royal Hospital Chelsea, home to the Chelsea Pensioners, with there very distinctive uniforms.

Founded by King Charles ll in 1682, and designed by Sir Christopher Wren, it opened in 1692.

And to this day it cares for around 300 army veterans.

The brick building at 547 W 26th Street, built in 1914 as a taxi stand, relocated from Annie Leibovitz's studio and dance stage at Cedar Lake to Chelsea Factory (2021-spring 2025), a five-year pop-up space in the heart of Manhattan dedicated to the artists of New York City that served more than 5,000 New York artists. Behind the brick Chelsea Factory building on 26th Street, there are stunning views of the glass towers of Hudson Yards.

Chelsea Brown from Rootstein's Virgo Collection

Opened in 1884 as an apartment house, The Chelsea Hotel quickly became the bohemian center for art, philosophy, and bad behavior. Bob Dylan composed songs while staying at the Chelsea, and poets Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso chose it as a place for philosophical and intellectual exchange. It is also known as the place where the writer Dylan Thomas died of alcohol poisoning in 1953, and where Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols may have stabbed his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, to death on October 12, 1978. Although converted to a hotel in 1905 private apartments are still maintained.
