“CHECKUP ON HIGH--AP artist Ben Valdivieso has pictured the moment yesterday when the Apollo 7 astronauts fired the steering engine that will guide astronauts to the moon on a future flight. It was the most powerful maneuver ever performed by a manned spacecraft. When it was complete commander Schirra reported that “the machine performed beautifully.”

I’ve come across several of Mr. Valdivieso’s works while of course, searching for space stuff. I’m sure you’ll agree, the gentleman possessed serious talent. As an Associated Press artist, I ignorantly assume that he was called upon to portray a diverse range of subjects, so who knows what other excellent non-space works by him are out there. Unfortunately, I’m sure I'll never see those...my loss.

I like the creative touch of the lights of major metropolitan areas across North America.

Little Burrito had his appointment with the neurologist today, to determine if he will need surgery or not. Specialist said surgery is not indicated at this point, which is happy news!! He is to continue his resting, no stairs or jumping or running, and he needs to lose weight to put less strain on his spine. He's a grand little rester so that's no problem. Cutting back on his food is not so easy. He takes after me and he does love to eat. But we're going to work hard together on this and get him slimmer!!

The clinic at which the neurologist works is still on Covid rules so I couldn't go in with him, which made me sad. He always looks so abandoned when they take him through the door. He does fine without me though, and makes it clear he is delighted to see me when they bring back to the car.

A quick checkup during the stop.

CN nos.5268 & 5448 head east on the Lumby sub as the conductor checks out the train.

The main camera is in the shop for a thorough clean and checkup; the weather is shocking and like everyone at my latitude I now work longer hours than the sun.

All that has actually been good for me as I am now heavily investing in studying my subject: history, composition, processing, printing - as much as I can. I have been finding Ian Plant's books and videos to be hugely informative and would recommend them strongly.

This has always been one of my favourite shots, but my original processing had some of traits that I am trying to avoid: a fear of shadows which results in my artificually lightening them beyond what the eye saw; a sea that is brighter than the sky; a loss of that dawn feeling; a loss of saturation in the highlights (lost because I dodn't know how to target that area without overdoing eveything else); over sharpening and finally a comp that followed all the rules - I admit that the balance of this new framing isn't typical, but I needed to capture the heaviness and dominance of the pier without giving up or handing over to the sky: this framing does that I think.

My original version is in the comments below.

Finally, apologies for not keeping up with my daily obligations: my wife and I are sharing the only PC in the house - hence me doing this processing at 4:30 in the morning.

Doing a checkup on the air conditioning unit up in the attic. I wasn’t able to work in the workshop due to very high humidity and rains throughout the day, but maybe tomorrow I can get a lot accomplished there!

After a checkup by the doctor, Pearl needed a bath so we could get rid of all the ticks and fleas.

Pearl was very appreciative to get cleaned up and pampered.

The appointment for my dental checkup and cleaning was arranged months ago, and her tools were arranged beautifully. She thought it was so funny that I asked to take a photo! ....#cy365 day272 'arranged'

Had the pleasure of performing Mr. Claus' annual checkup and am pleased to report that he's in great shape for this year's holiday season. If fact, given his age and comorbidites he meets the new blood pressure guidelines set by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. The new definition of stage 1 hypertension is reduced from 140 to 130 mm Hg systolic and 90 to to 80 mm Hg diastolic as the cut off pressures. Way to go, Santa!

A look at the sad state of the nearly empty North Avenue Yard on Chicago's north side. UPY #700, an ex-MoPac engine, is the power for Job 68, the last UP job based out of the yard. Behind it is a single box car for the Chicago Tribune.

The yard office to the right has become a maintenance-of-way base for the ongoing bridge projects on the Kenosha Sub.

After finishing up at the V-E-Ts for Henry's yearly checkup and shots, we stopped by the local pub for a cool drink (ice water for Henry) and a tasty meal (his was a quarter-pounder with cheese and a side of cottage cheese, off the kid's menu.)

The staff was wonderful, making sure Henry's water bowl stayed full and that he received plenty of attention.

Definitely two paws up!

(We enjoyed our meal as well, as always.)

It was bit chilly to be eating outside, hence the lack of a crowd (it was packed inside). If it was 20 degrees warmer we wouldn't have been able to get a table. That said, by the time we left there were two more tables with canine companions.

Celebrating a good heart checkup.

Had an annual checkup at the hospital today which split the time into two parts. Built the gate this morning, popped into the farmers outlet to get the galvanised hinges and bolts then fitted everything when I got back

Dental hygienist at Armadale Dentistry works with a popular Markham dentist offering a comprehensive teeth cleaning service before laser surgery.

Had my dental checkup and cleaning this afternoon... All looks good in the gaping hole known as my mouth.

I gave them the Reader's Digest Condensed version of the 365 Group and asked if they would mind if I shot a few pics at arm's length during the appointment. Everyone there thought it was a really cool idea, even though no one seemed to have heard of Flickr. The hygienist made me show her all the shots I took before she let me out of the chair!

Pearl was pretty weak, starved, and she will need some time to recover from her life as a stray. Her muscles are atrophied, and I am hoping that in a few months she will be back to normal.

We scanned her for a microchip, we looked at the shelter, searched all the websites, and no one has reported her missing... we'll keep looking.

A ton of credit goes to the UP Steam Team for bringing UP 4014 back to life. After spending over 50 years on display, the team rebuilt it and converted it to run on oil. Only 25 Big Boys were built and eight remain in existence today (4004, 4005, 4006, 4012, 4014, 4017, 4018, and 4023). These beasts are 132 feet long and weighs 625 tons.

My Nikki has is going to the vet for a her senior checkup next Thursday

night....she has been losing too much weight, and starting to show her

age(16 yrs) lately and I am worried about her. She only weighs 6 lbs as

of tonight....she lost a half a pound since her last checkup this past July:(

At least her kidneys were in good shape, and she is eating and drinking

very well....she is just too skinny. She will get full blood work and screening,

she will not be thrilled......but it has to be done. Please keep her in your

thoughts and prayers....she means the world to me.

For Macro Monday's Theme: Good Health.

We've just had our 41 week checkup, as well as a full sonogram.

Well, the good news is that the baby couldn't be any healthier, and there are no issues at all with respect to his having plenty of room in the womb, fluids, etc.

The other news, though, is that he's measuring at about 10 lbs right now! He needs to come out a'fore he gets any bigger!
