Much like our signs at cash - this one on the plexi glass really indicates to turn the labels - you can't miss it. And i think they do for the most part. Of the 10 or so times I've been there (never on a weekend though) there have been no less than 8 lanes open with at least 5 in line at any time. Not bad for a Tuesday afternoon!
I have never seen a self checkout quite like this before, I’ve seen something similar at Walmart, but without the conveyor belt. They way it’s designed reminds me of a check out design Kroger tested about 15 years ago where the customer put their products in a machine that looked like a TSA scanner and they had baggers at the end. They were called Advantage Checkouts and were tested in some Cincinnati Marketplace stores.
I am unsure of when this Kroger opened, but if I were to guess it would be the somewhere between late 1995 and 1999. The site of this store was once home to a 9500 series Kmart store that opened on October 4, 1979 and closed on February 12, 1995.
