Dental Checkup
Today was my 6-month dental checkup and cleaning. That's Dr. Butler's hygienist Natalie behind me after she's done and we're waiting on Dr. Butler to look me over. She says I'm easy because I take good care of my teeth. That means, floss!
This morning our power was out when we woke up so we got ready by candlelight. It certainly made for an interesting morning.
Around Noon Julie called me to tell me that Alec had his car towed. I didn't quite understand where it was that it got towed from her information. But he ended up calling me and I learned that it was on campus near the big McDonalds. He learned the expensive lesson about parking on campus! So, I left work early and picked him up at Morrill Tower where he was hanging out with his latest girlfriend. We swung by a Chase machine so he could get out the $140 cash to get his car back then went to Fumble Recovery to get it. Expensive lunch for him!
Since I had a window of time I stopped at the NutriMost Worthington office and bought Julie some of their lotion.
I stopped at home to check on things since the power was restored. I moved some gear into the house from the car then left to go to my dental appointment.
After my appointment I went back home and watched the Mid-Season Finale and the Mid-Season Debut episodes of The Walking Dead while I ate my dinner. I started making tomorrow's meals and washing all the dishes, cookware, and food containers. I also started the laundry. Alec ended up driving Julie home from work so I was able to get all the meals done and packed, dishes clean, and trash taken out. I finished the laundry shortly after she got home.
I was a fairly productive spouse today!
To my astonishment Tessa received a clean bill of health.
Tessa is a quiet sort of cat and at ten years of age I was concerned she might have health issues. But did she walk like a racoon in the examining room? No. Did she let her tail droop to the floor in the examining room? No. Did she act like a young active cat in the prime of her life? Yes, she did.
Tessa's new vet, Dr. Melanie Armstrong, said her heart is good. Her teeth are good and her ears are clean. Yes, she has a little arthritis but don't we all.
I bought some fish oil to spray on Tessa's food and that was it. Sole can have some of the fish oil too ... and as for me .... Dr Armstrong said it wouldn't hurt. :)
We held a deworming and health education seminar at La Main Tendre Orphanage and Hands Together to Defend the Children Orphanage. A total of more than 60 children were treated in one day!
We also assessed health at the orphanages and will soon return to address any further health issues.
Big thanks to P.J. Pitts and her partner, Terry, for providing meds and medical care for these vulnerable kids!
And thanks to HERNow for sending an extra nurse to help out. Read more about HERNow at hernow.org/.

This is Devon's mother, Dawn.
We went to see Dr. Madden for Devons checkup. The news is odd and again quite fucking scary!
The tumor markers are higher than the 5 that I quoted last time. They are 26. Now we have seen this number very high before, like in the 50,000 to 75,000 range so IDK. The Nurse Practitioner Cindy Frick said this is confusing because Devon's Torso MRI says no changes. Dr. Dial, The Gamma Knife team, already had an appt. for another Brain MRI scheduled for next month but they've changed it to get him in earlier.
I want to cuss!
I knew this number was rising. I remember that after the first couple of checkups the number was 1. I wrote it that day on flickr. Then the next couple of checkups the number was 5 and everyone convinced me that it was always 5. OK Now the number is 26. Dammit.
Get that mammogram accomplished early!

Yesterday it was Nixon's turn for his annual checkup at the vet. When we go, both dogs go because if one is left at home there is trouble when the one that got to "go for a ride" comes home. Our vet has a Ring-tail Lemur that roams freely about the clinic and most of the time this fella is moving so fast jumping from one place to another either in the waiting area or in the back that you can barely keep up with it. Yesterday was different, frame 1 shows it landed near where Little Bit and I were waiting for Mike and Nixon to come out of the exam. Frame 2 is while Mike was paying it landed on a chair near us, frame 3 is the reaction of the dogs and frame 4 is them settling into the fact that they can only watch and drool from afar.
You had your one month checkup today and far surpassed my estimate for your weight and length. I guessed you were 8lbs 10oz and 20 inches. You are actually 10.2 lbs and 21 inches! Dr. Arango was thrilled and I was astonished. Now you will probably be relieved to know that you can sleep as long as you like at night without me poking you with a nipple. Not that you seem to mind that much!

Went to the eye doctor today for my regular checkup. All is well; she says I've stabilized (my vision generally gets worse each year) and that I'd be a good candidate for Lasik if I want to take that route. I'm not sure; I have a general aversion to anything slicing my eye open. But it sure would be sweet to see without any help.
She also told me that the medical term for what's in my eye is "nevus" — which just means birthmark, really. (She even took the time to have her receptionist print out the Wikipedia page for me. Now that's service!) But I'd been told by previous doctors that it was a busted blood vessel that just sort of left a stain in my eye. Or something like that. Hell, I was a kid. They were probably making stuff up. Turns out it's just a mole. And they're common, she says. So take a good look at your eyes some time. You probably have a small one in there somewhere.
Also, check out the extreme dilation in my eyes. Yeah, I can't focus on anything and I'm supposed to avoid light. Which means the only thing I can do is go back to bed. Which suits me just fine, since I got a whopping four hours of sleep last night.
Willow went to the vet today for a checkup. In the last two weeks we've been monitoring his weight and overall health. In the beginning he responded to the medication by gaining quite some weight, but the last few days it was getting less. Now we've doubled his medication and we'll see what will happen.
On a plus note he doesn't act sick (yet) end his bloodpressure is fine.
The vet did give us an indication of what might happen when he does get sick. I'm hoping it'll never happen, but it's sadly inevitable.
It makes us feel very aware that nothing is forever, a thought we have to get used to.
Untill now, Willow is doing fine and he's happy and that's what counts most.

Although Wrangler is normally a very big cat, he nonetheless topped out a little over his optimal weight and registered almost 25 pounds on the scale. He's down about half a pound since we weighed him at home about a week ago. But the Vet still wants him to loose another couple of pounds, so it is time to put him on diet cat food.
Good Health Before Pregnancy: Prepregnancy Care
- What is a prepregnancy care checkup?
This is the first step in planning a healthy pregnancy. The purpose of this checkup is to look for anything that could have an impact on your pregnancy. Because significant organs develop in a fetus during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy, identifying these factors is essential.
- What happens during a prepregnancy care checkup?
During this visit, your obstetric care provider will make sure you have gotten all the vaccines recommended for your age group, talk about the risk of STIs and how to protect yourself and they will also talk about your diet and lifestyle, medical and family history, medications you take and past pregnancies
- How can I try to be healthier before pregnancy?
The months leading up to your pregnancy are the best time to take steps to be healthier. These steps may include taking prenatal vitamin, keeping your environment safe, stopping the use of unhealthy substances (tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, and prescription drugs taken for a nonmedical reason), eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and reaching and maintaining a healthy weight (Being underweight or overweight may cause problems during pregnancy).
Cutting back on your daily calories intake and exercising more are great steps to reach a health body weight if you are overweight.

Yes, you read it right. It was my grandfather's last meal. After this soup he was taken to the Jamal Noor hospital for checkup. When his condition worsened he was taken to Patel hospital. He passed away on 10th December, 2011, just before 3 PM (P.S.T). His namaz-e-Janaza was held at Memon masjid, Pahari walli, Shaheed-e-Millad road, Karachi, at 8 PM. He was finally burried at Mehwashah graveyard.
When I was shooting this photograph my grandfather (dada in Urdu) asked me why I wanted to shoot more when I had already shot 4. I, off course, did not have any immediate answer so I kept my camera and had last lunch with him. Little did I know that it would be the final time any of us present there would be having our last meal with him. He was 85 or 86 years old, was born at Bahwanagar, Gujarat province, pre-partition India (British Raj). He, along with his family, immigrated to newly born state of Pakistan in 1948 (Pakistan came into being in August, 1947, ostensibly as an Islamic state). In India he had run a chai dhaba with his elder brother, Ahmad bhai. In Pakistan, he had an edible oil shop at Jodia Bazaar, Karachi. He also had Noor Electric Co., which he had begun with his brother in 1973-74. It was later split in 1984 when Ahmad bhai decided to leave. (Ahmad bhai was my nana and he had begun Bombay Light House).
Haji Moosa Adhia was his full name. He was expert in Indian herbal medicine, what is generally called 'Hikmah' and is practiced by hakims across India and Pakistan. He wasn't educated in this field but through his immense interest he knew almost all the local herbs by their traditional names and knew what uses each had. This allowed him to treat everyone for free, whoever came for his advice. I never saw him charge a fee for his expertise. Many women came from afar for treatment of their knees, a common ailment nowadays among many women. For men, there could be anything from stress to heart disease. He almost always recommended use of honey ('shehed' or 'madh' in Urdu) in one or the other form for many of the diseases. His breakfast almost always had honey as an important component in it. It is to his enduring legacy that I also adore honey and try it with various meals. Another favourite of him were the dry fruits - almonds, cashew, walnuts, dried figs, pistachio, and others. Every winter we would receive some of these from his as his gifts. As I write these lines I can see on my table some of his gifted dry fruits for this winter.
May his soul rest in peace and Sadqa of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (salahu alihi wasalam) bestowed on him and all of us by ALLAH. Ameen.

Devons 2nd checkup after Chemo.
We still dont know much. The Nurse Practitioner explained that there are still spots (nodules) on both of his lungs but that they have significantly reduced in size and the cancer markers in his blood work have lowered from 1200 to 800 and then now to 1. So the plan is again to wait and test again in August. Stopping short of saying he is in remission, I suppose the journey continues.
Look at that beautiful peach fuzzyness growing on his head and face!
The Dr did release him so that he can go get his shoulder repaired again from another surgeon. That will probably be soon, we are taking a break now.
UPDATE FROM THE VETS.... At 8.38pm.... 9/6/2011...
As you are all aware Blacky went to the vets for a checkup....His appointment was at 5.20pm today... Ok Catherine gave him another thorough check out, and she could hear the crackling in his breathing.... But she wanted a better listen so she took him out the back into a very quite room, and she manipulated his throat so he would cough for her and he did... He has also lost some weight he was 9kilo's before and now he's down to 8.8kilo's.... So he's on another course of antibiotics called "Clavulox" It's a big pink tablet that he has 1/2 in the mornings and 1/2 at night time for 14 days then he goes for another check up on Monday 20th June at 1.20pm...Now if the antibiotics dont work this time Catherine will order an x-ray and bloods.....But im so hopeing with all my might that these tablet will work... He also was treated with a stuff called"Advocate" that helps fight "Lung Worm" in cats as that was another symptom she was looking at that causes the coughing Blackys got... Now the worst case scenario is that he could have some form of "Cancer" but shes not even looking for that at the moment but will if this keeps on going after the x-ray.... My poor baby is getting quite sick of all this coughing by now and it shows in the videos ive got on my phone...So I think Blacky getting through the night with out any coughing is a bloody bonus for the both of us... So i will keep you up to date if the coughing comes back bad or something else develops in the mean time... So i just pray this works.... Cheers Michelle and Blacky xxxxx....
I just want to say thanks so much for all the love and support you have shown me and Blacky through out this ordeal and being with my boys when this all started, thanks so much my friends...
Now the main reason Catherine isnt doing the x-ray straight away is mainly she's trying to keep the vets costs down for me with only paying what i can at the moment... But if the coughing is still there after these tablet for sure the x-ray is getting done... So far i,ve been able to pay on my own in vet bills over $133.15.... But the x-ray and blood work over $200 with a 50% deposit, if it needs to be done!!
So im doing better but still very tired with little sleep, but it will happen when Blacky is 100% better then he is now....

Linda cuts the stitch at the bottom and then pulls it out at the top. Allison said this didn't really hurt, but felt "weird." I know the picture looks a little unnerving! (Allison's favorite picture!)
The Gurukul Cluster is a large community of migrant workers who settled on the outskirts of Faridibad in Harayana, north India over ten years ago to mine a local quarry. In 1996 the Supreme Court closed the quarry due to the excessive number of Tuberculosis cases in the surrounding communities. Many families are still recovering from the devestating effects mining in the local quary had on their community.

In for HRT checkup and bloodwork today. New doctor, he seemed very busy and wasn’t that interested in my own personal medical records book. For the past five years It was nice having a female doctor sharing her advice on my female puberty.
Tonight I am meeting a friend for a dinner at his house. Old bandmate who still doesn’t know I’m almost done transitioning and has done quite well for himself after touring. Quite rare. Usually guys burn up trying integrate themselves back into society. No attraction. He is married l, I’ll be andro, and we just need to catch up. ☮️💜
