I realized last month that I totally forgot to get the children their annual well-child checkups! So today I took Anna and Dominic in together to see Dr. G. It's nice to visit him when the children are healthy!

Anna is 9 years old, weighs 96 pounds and is 57.5" inches tall. That puts her in the 90th percentile for height and weight. I should really go back to the child hypotonia board on iVillage to post that update... from 6 months to age 3, Anna was never on the chart and was considered failure to thrive. Look at her now! There are some concerns about her low tone causing some physical issues, but there isn't really anything we can do about it. She is otherwise doing well.

Dominic is 6 years old. He weighs 47.7 pounds and is 47.75 inches tall. Isn't that funny? 47 and 47? That puts him in the 46th percentile for weight and 60th percentile for height. He is doing very well overall.

They both got their FluMist vaccines and we were done. It went well but I swear I'm never taking them together solo again, lol! In this photo, I was having Anna practice laying down and tilting her head back to get the FluMist so she wouldn't be so scared. She looked so cute that I got a quick photo.

On a checkup, our cat was diagnosed with early signs of chronic renal failure. For treatment, we have to give him subcutaneous injections of saline to keep him hydrated and dilute the body's toxins that the kidneys can no longer filter out. He actually tolerates this fairly well and has been doing great for the past year.

Good Health Before Pregnancy: Prepregnancy Care

- What is a prepregnancy care checkup?

This is the first step in planning a healthy pregnancy. The purpose of this checkup is to look for anything that could have an impact on your pregnancy. Because significant organs develop in a fetus during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy, identifying these factors is essential.

- What happens during a prepregnancy care checkup?

During this visit, your obstetric care provider will make sure you have gotten all the vaccines recommended for your age group, talk about the risk of STIs and how to protect yourself and they will also talk about your diet and lifestyle, medical and family history, medications you take and past pregnancies

- How can I try to be healthier before pregnancy?

The months leading up to your pregnancy are the best time to take steps to be healthier. These steps may include taking prenatal vitamin, keeping your environment safe, stopping the use of unhealthy substances (tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, and prescription drugs taken for a nonmedical reason), eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and reaching and maintaining a healthy weight (Being underweight or overweight may cause problems during pregnancy).

Cutting back on your daily calories intake and exercising more are great steps to reach a health body weight if you are overweight.

January 27, 2016: Today was a day to be in doctor clinics and hospitals. I had my semi-annual checkup today to renew any medications and review blood work. After my appointment, I went to the hospital to spend time with my sister who is in with another bout of pancreatitis.

Time for a checkup.

Max's checkup today went well. He has been eating well and he has gained 2 pounds since he was so sick. He was 12 pounds before and now he is 14.

I'm sorry I am falling behind on commenting, but I will try to catch up here and there when I can.

Getting close to the due date. Now we're on a weekly checkup.

There are very wrong myths about root canal treatment. People still believe that root canal therapy causes cancer. This is fake. Don’t trust it. A root canal treatment is done to save a deeply decayed tooth that might otherwise be lost.

This truck (which barley runs) is supposed to be retired at it's next checkup. The tank in the back is to be a "back up" tanker truck (the other one being an actual tanker truck) for the street sweepers. I thought the photo was good when I took it... now I'm having second thoughts. It's a little creepy... if you know what I mean! Also, if you see the logo on the door, a while they changed the logo to that on all of their trucks. Around 2 years ago, the Government decided that that was incorrect or something, so they have to change ALL the 500+ trucks back to the state seal.

Tons of the trucks are this old too, and are soon to be retired, but the government won't pay for new ones, AND they will pay MORE MONEY to repair impossible problems with the same trucks! No matter what, they will soon be retired and many roads will not be plowed in snow storms.

Activities were conducted under USFWS permit # MA770191.
