Game 1: The Nurses Office
An old nurses' office at Templeworks was moodily lit complete with a zombie nurse actress, teams had to use the Augmented Reality (by Feature Media) on the laptop and webcam provided, which displayed QR codes the players then had to scan on their phones to be giving missing words from a medical report. Once they had all the words and read the report to the nurse, she would lead them into the next room, where behind hospital blinds was a dead body with a QR code on his head - scanning that QR code completed the task, and calculated the score based on time taken.

Photos from the "Check In, Check Off" event organised to take part in Leeds Digital Festival 2011.
The event was concieved, planned and executed by a group of people from multiple digital agencies around leeds with a desire to do something great for the fesitval. It was split into 2 parts - first a treasure hunt between the Corn Exchange and Temple Works via Granary Wharf where teams of players needed to find and answer questions realting to easily-overlooked sights along the route, along with a little QR trickery to prepare them for the main event - 4 themed games at the historic Grade-1 listed semi-derelict Templeworks Mill in Holbeck.
The themed games wove digital and reality as puzzles - each "room" had an 8 minute time limit per team, and were stylistically themed complete with mood lighting and actors as "the nurses office", "the library", "the it room" and "the toilets". Each room had a different puzzle invloving QR codes and Augmented Reality. A custom mobile-web app was created by Rick to tie everything together - recording scanned qr codes, tracking players and their phones against their teams, managing the instructions for each room and the time limit, calculating scores, and even managing which team needed to go to which room to efficiently manage 4 teams all playing 4 different games at a time.

This is a collage of different types of checks used in a GAMCHHA - the most widely used multi-purpose scarf worn on the head (like a turban when people carry heavy objects by balancing them on their heads, or like a bandana - to stop sweat from trickling down the eyes and face) or hung over the shoulders ready for the next possible situation where it is needed (woven out of hand-spun cotton, it is soft and super absorbent, and makes for a great towel after a wash, that also dries up very quickly).
The ones in this collage were produced by rural weavers funded by the Grameen Bank (pioneering in micro-credit) and marketed by "Grameen Uddyog".

13 DPO. Just to be sure, I used 2 different tests this morning. Even with dodgy 'no-flash photography, there's no question that they're both positive.
Top: First Response test
Bottom: Generic Medical Centre test (my friend's mum nicked them for me from where she works)
We the Kings - Check Yes Juliet
Just a quick one using one of the revision cards I'm supposed to be using to revise Environmental Sciences.
Reasons I knew today was going to suck:
It was the first day back at school
I ripped my only pair of tights before school this morning
The radio said it was the most miserable day of the year today
I fell on the ice and cut my right leg open
I caught my clothes on a chair and almost ripped them in my annoyance
I fell on a second piece of ice and now I limp slightly
I couldn't find my Spanish homework
It was freezing cold.
I should spend the rest of tonight revising EV, English and Maths.
Reasons today didn't suck so much:
Our history teacher didn't make us work today
Our Ecosystems teacher let us go 30mins early
I got a merit in my Grade 5 singing exam
Our Spanish teacher let us out early
I got home early.
Sprayed a couple of coats of grey primer to see how they've come out - not bad, but there's some minor de-fluffing and tidying to do.
I removed the tentacles in the end and turned them into Boneworms of Khorne (!) as well as adding a spur claw-looking spike to the right hand. The idea is to have one worm on the base, and one leaping out of the slot on the right shoulder.

Medically Friendly Shelter Exercise
June 8th and 9th, 2011
The City conducted a major full-scale exercise of the new Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) in the Virginia Beach Field House. The public private partnership with the newly opened athletic facility provides a 170,000 square foot venue where the City can accommodate people with special needs during a Category 2 hurricane or other declared emergency.
More than 25 staff and volunteers came together in the middle of the night on June 8 to turn ball courts into a mass care area and space for family members.
Just after sunrise on June 9, over 100 members reported to organize registration, triage, medical care and logistical support for the facility. Throughout the morning, volunteers reported to the Field House seeking shelter for an array of simulated medical conditions. Each was screened then placed at a cot where they could be monitored by nursing staff.
While the Department of EMS is the lead agency for coordinating the MFS, this event would not have been possible without participation from across City staff and community organizations.
Participants included City Departments of Fire, Health, Sheriff, Police, Human
Services, ComIT Multimedia Services, Public Works and Public Utilities. Volunteers responded from the Medical Reserve Corps, CERT, Amerigroup, American Red Cross, rescue squads and local military units.
