Today, the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 103,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent. With 137,000 jobs added by private businesses, this marks the 19th consecutive month of private sector job growth.
Leader Nancy Pelosi:
"Today's report makes it clear: we must act now to put people back to work, strengthen our small businesses and grow our economy. Americans cannot afford to wait any longer.
"For 276 days in the majority, House Republicans have failed to enact any jobs measures or put forth a clear jobs agenda. And they've rejected repeated Democratic proposals to bolster small businesses and entrepreneurs, boost manufacturers through our 'Make It In America' initiative, and create good-paying jobs here at home.
"It's time for Republicans to get off the sidelines and take up President Obama's American Jobs Act – to put people to work rebuilding America, strengthen small businesses so they can grow and hire, and keep teachers, police officers, and firefighters on the job. And we must ensure that the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction focuses on economic growth because the most effective way to reduce the deficit is through job creation.
“Americans are waiting; Democrats have been prepared to act; and Republicans must join us to create jobs now."
The more connected an individual becomes, the more able they are to learn. The more they are able to learn, the more possibilities they will have.

This is an old chart, about ten years, which is good, as it shows if there are any color shifts or fading over time. Most of these color samples are Winsor Newton Colors. The "A" marked on the chart is a designation from Winsor Newton that indicates lightfastness.
The white stripes through the colors are to test for color bleed. If you notice on Gold Ochre for instance, white opacity is hard to achieve. When layering gouache colors you have to be careful, as some colors continue to bleed through the layers. Especially, what are called fugitive colors, that contain small amounts of analine dyes. Cadmium colors I have found will always cover up a color below, so even if you have a midnight blue background, a cadmium orange will happily sit on top without bleed through, solidly opaque.
I love Brown Madder-- but, you won't see it on this chart. It is a no longer made Winsor Newton color with a lightfast rating of B. In under a year, many works of mine faded using this paint. That is when I got smarter and started paying attention to the information on the tube. Overall, purples in the Windsor Newton series tend to be fugitive. As an alternative, you can create your own gouache using a pigment and gum arabic, like the bottom purple color shown.

FEEDBACK LOOPS IN GAME DESIGN
as observed by
Jesse Catron, Jay Barnson, Kyoryu
Design: Daniel Solis (danielsolis.com)
----------
In a feedback loop, the output affects the input.
----------
POSITIVE FEEDBACK AMPLIFIES the output and tends to destabilize the system. For example, the runaway leader. One player takes an early insurmountable lead.
In Settlers of Catan, the player with the most productive settlements will generate the most resources, which enables him to build more settlements and gain even more resources.
NEGATIVE FEEDBACK DIMINISHES the output and tends to stabilize the system. For example, a “take-that” mechanic that gives trailing player’s more opportunities to constrain the leading player’s efforts.
In Settlers of Catan, players are less likely to accept trades with the leading player. The leading player is more likely to be targeted by the Robber.
----------
Balancing feedback loops is an important skill for all game designers.
----------
DECK BUILDING
[ + ] You can use low value “copper” cards to buy higher value “silver” and “gold” cards, thus leading to greater and greater amounts of buying power later in the game.
[ - ] Victory is determined by collecting Victory Point cards, which have no short-term tactical value and simply take up space in your deck.
RACING / KING OF THE HILL
[ + ] Once a driver takes an early lead, they can shift to high gear to increase speed. While the trailing drivers jockey for more optimal position, the leader has few obstacles.
[ - ] Curves and hazards can make speeding dangerous, allowing trailing drivers to catch up. If cars have weapons, this makes the leader a likely target.
KNIZIA SET
[ + ] Players collect several different types of resources. Each resource has unique properties. Some of which may buy upgrades that make acquiring resources easier.
[ - ] Victory is determined by collecting the most full sets of all resources. Focus is spread across a broad spectrum of tactical decisions.

Lankershim / North Hollywood Station building shortly after its refurbishment project was declared complete on October 30, 2014. There was a civic ceremony to confirm the completion. I hadn't seen any advance announcements for the event and missed the opportunity to attend.
Unfortunately, another person unable to attend the event was Guy Weddington McCreary, scion of one of North Hollywood's founding families; his ancestors had provided the land for the station's original construction and he'd been a major force in the redevelopment of the "NoHo" area and for the preservation of the station building. He'd passed away on October 12 at the age of 77.
According to Metro's The Source, although the $3.6-million project was finished, the building would "remain unoccupied until Metro determines the best use for the property and finds a future tenant. The chosen tenant will then make its required renovations to the interior, as well as plant landscaping around the depot’s perimeter. Additional work upon occupancy will include the restoration of an adjacent park and rebuilding railroad tracks next to the station to provide the proper context for the building."
The building also would not be available for occupancy until after the completion of the just-commenced North Hollywood Station Underpass Project, that will connect the Orange Line Busway boarding area to the north of the building with the Red Line subway station on the other side of Lankershim Blvd. via an underground passageway.
Today (December 7, 2015), la.eater.com has broken the news that the building will be occupied by Groundworks Coffee, which will be very convenient for riders of the subway, the Orange Line buses, and the various local bus lines that converge at the Red Line station across the street, who won't be allowed to drink their coffee aboard the public conveyances.

Infinite Geometry
Infinite Geometry (Andy Reed) has been an audio alchemist for the past 10 years. His main focus has been his visionary art for the past few years (www.facebook.com/infinitegeometryart), but another passion of his has been electronic music.
He is currently based out of Asheville, NC and plays shows occasionally around the southeast US, as well as doing special timeslots in the Vision Lab multi-sensory art dome or early sunrise sets at renegade stages at music festivals.
He first began attending electronic events and raves in NYC at age 14, when living in northern NJ. He quickly drew very fond of the subculture that revolves around these highly intelligent and somewhat alien soundscapes. At age 17, he bought belt-drive Numark turntables and a 6 channel mixer from Radioshack. Everyone needs to start somewhere, right? His gear has been updated a lot since those days, having Technic 1210 M5G turntables and a vast collection of vinyl. Most of his recent music is in digital/mp3 format, but he is known from breaking the mold and dropping those warm vibrant analog sounding beats and bass.
Over time, he grew a deeply fond love of liquid jazzy drum and bass, in which he still plays regularly at shows now and again. As time progressed, so did his love of different genres. Currently, his sets include multi-genres including psybient downtempo, psydub, templestep, IDM, dreambass, post-dubstep, 2step & future garage, minimal atmospheric dnb, funky tribal house, and many others.
