My current ride home from Chicago is 20K. This is a hot LTL intermodal train which originates at the former New York Central facility at 63rd Street.
If everything goes as planned, we are doubled up, air tested, and ready to highball around 2pm. Around that same time, Amtrak 352 is due at Englewood.
Our perch today is Dash 9 9218, followed by an SD70ACU. Not that long ago, the Dash 9s were found in the lead across the railroad. With the focus now being on AC traction, the Dash 9 series seems to be heading out to pasture.
If everything goes according to plan, my conductor and I normally have the train doubled up and air tested around 2pm. We depart the yard and enter the mainline at CP 513, better known as Grand Junction back in it's heyday.
Coincidentally, Amtrak train 352 is due in Englewood about the same time. Rarely is the train tardy and today is no exception. The track speed here is 70mph and the single engine has the six car consist near the limit.
While it is nice to get a break from the monotonous Genesis unit in the lead, you will not find me going out of my way to photograph the Chargers. While I have lamented my disdain for these and the Genesis units in prior vignettes, I will abstain from making additional comments and promise to refrain from beating a dead horse.

A sunny Sunday in winter usually brings out plenty of classics, but, unusually, we've got frosty nights at the moment and the roads have been salted. Therefore, I was quite surprised to see this, and I'll admit I didn't know what it was.
So; 1972 Dodge Charger, 5,200cc, imported 2015. 101,000 miles at the last MOT, and it's done about 10,000 since importation.
The wipers look rather too short....

The Charger Beast is a fast and ferocious creature, it's strong legs allow it to move at great speeds and the two horns on the head make for short work of anything in the way.

The Illinois Zephyr rolls though Hinsdale behind a new Siemens Charger on the east end. Of all the things I have photographed passing this location over the years, these things are certainly not the best looking of the group.
