Personally, I’m more biased towards the ‘69-70 Chargers, but the ‘71-72 models resonates with me just as much. I remember seeing these when I was little (these were manufactured before my time), and I was always infatuated with the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s, and the stories that owners of these vehicles have to tell are mesmerizing to say the very least. I was also more biased towards Plymouth in my younger days (my first two cars were from Plymouth), but the legacy the Charger has remains indescribable, at least to me. Again, I don’t know why, but these particular Chargers were just as drawn to me as their predecessors.
Amtrak ran a test train along the former D&RGW through Utah and Colorado on July 20, 2019. The power consist included two GE P42DCs, two Siemens Charger locomotives, and a mix of eight cars. This photograph was captured just west of Kyune, Utah in a area where the railroad and Price River part company with US Highway 6.
This Empire Builder left CHI with Charger 300 leading and this OLS unit trailing. Due to a malfunction, they were swapped out on the east side of Whitefish, Montana. Here, the train has finally made it into Whitefish depot and is doing it’s station work. I hope Amtrak purchased the extended warranty package on those Chargers?!
Running an hour and a quarter or so late, Amtrak 6, the 'California Zephyr', backs towards Chicago Union Station as SC44 Charger 4618, leading train 393, the 'Illini', passes BNSF 6008, which had rescued some long-distance train a day or two earlier.
While walking around the car show I came up to this Charger and it stopped me in my tracks!
What a beautiful car, paint color and location under a tree. Everything about this view was perfect.
Street Machines Weekend 2024 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
What a great weekend of events.
Generation 1 of the Dodge Charger was available for Model Years 1966-67.
During the mid 1960’s there was a bit of a resurgence of the fastback style of roof offered on American car models. The Plymouth Barracuda, Rambler (AMC) Marlin, Ford Mustang 2+2 and the Dodge Charger shown above arrived on the scene within a few years of one another. By 1968 the fastback style roof had expanded to significantly more American car models.
However for the 2nd Generation Dodge Charger (1968-1970), the style of roof was no longer a fastback. It was instead a notchback with a recessed backlite. See 2nd photo in first comment below.
