The Merwede Canal was realized between 1882 and 1891 as a connection for freight traffic between Amsterdam , Utrecht, the major rivers and further to Germany. Numerous works of art have been constructed along and in the Merwede Canal , including the Muntsluis (officially ‘Sluis Bewesten Utrecht’). The shipping route attracted activity on the quays; the Royal Dutch Mint established itself on the Leidsekade in 1907 and a year later the Stichtse Olie- en Lijnkoekenfabriek Cereol was erected across the street. Soon the canal could no longer cope with the growth of shipping. The new Amsterdam-Rhine Canal took over the function of the Rhine navigation in the middle of the last century. The Merwede Canal lost its significance and is no longer of importance to shipping.

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurkin' in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes,
You're paralyzed
'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

Guernsey is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. With several smaller nearby islands, it forms a jurisdiction within the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a Crown dependency. The jurisdiction is made up of ten parishes on the island of Guernsey, three other inhabited islands (Herm, Jethou and Lihou), and many small islets and rocks. The jurisdiction is not part of the United Kingdom, although defence and most foreign relations are handled by the British Government.
The entire jurisdiction lies within the Common Travel Area of the British Isles and is not a member of the European Union, but has a special relationship with it, being treated as part of the European Community with access to the single market for the purposes of free trade in goods. Taken together with the separate jurisdictions of Alderney and Sark it forms the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The two Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey together form the geographical grouping known as the Channel Islands
This morning the fog was so dense that you couldn’t even see the river. The sun is finally starting to break through and you can just see the tree line across the Corrotoman River. Temperatures are supposed to be close to 64F (17C) today.
"Mud walking (in Dutch: wadlopen) is an exciting and adventurous way of acquainting oneself with a unique nature reserve, the Wadden Sea, also the largest continuous national park in Europe. During low-tide, shallows fall dry making it possible to cross the bottom of the sea.
These shallows consist of sandbanks, criss-crossed with trenches and gullies. During a typical mud walk, hikers wrestle through miles of mire and thigh-deep brown mud, wade through channels of waist high water before arriving on one of the islands in the Wadden Sea."

Make sure you have a guided tour and only when the weather conditions are right!
For now it was nice to make a very short walk ;-)) The Wadden Sea is such a great place to visit if you love nature and silence.
Happy monochrome Thursday !

The elusive otter is one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish (particularly eels and salmonids), waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as 'holts'. Excellent and lithe swimmers, the young are in the water by 10 weeks of age. Otters are well suited to a life on the water as they have webbed feet, dense fur to keep them warm, and can close their ears and nose when underwater. They require clean rivers, with an abundant source of food and plenty of vegetation to hide their secluded holts.
How to identify
The otter is a large, powerful mammal, with grey-brown fur, a broad snout, and a pale chest and throat. Otters can be distinguished from mink by their much larger size and broader face.
Distribution
A rare but widespread species, now found throughout the country but absent from parts of central and southern England, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands (Courtesy the Wildlife Trusts).

One of the later sunset shots I took on this evening, one thing I had forgot to do was change my settings from shooting hand held during the day, to be honest I was rather late getting to this spot after being indecisive about where to shoot the sunset. However, I got some shots but had not noticed my ISO was still at 400 doh,I prefer to shoot at 100 or if I can get away with it 50 for the quality and latitude it gives me .
So this is one of a number of compositions I made before it got a bit too dark on our last night in Cornwall, more to come from Cornwall in due course .
Channeled my inner 'Cat' for this shot. 37421 leading 3Q12 1220 Doncaster West Yard - Goole over the River Don at Conisbrough. Evey Valentines day needs a frothy four....? 14th February 2023.
Taken near Kurrajong, NSW.
The Channel-billed Cuckoo lays its eggs in the nests of other large birds such as the Australian Magpie, the Pied Currawong, and members of the crow family. Unlike many other cuckoos, the young birds do not evict the host's young or eggs from the nest, but simply grow faster and demand all the food, thus starving the others.
They are notorious for calling all night long during the breeding season. This species is sometimes known as the Storm-bird.

Last 5 minutes of warm evening light on the Seven Sisters & coastguard cottages.
You can see where a massive 10 meter chunk of the 250ft high chalk cliff of the fourth of the seven sisters has slipped out into the English Channel earlier in the week - worst land slip here in 50 years apparently according to some.
You can also make out a few people down on the beach to give a sense of scale.
Best not to get too close to the edge up above, or to the cliff face down below unless you've always had a real yearning to be fossilised in the chalk just like an ammonite :)
