I've been wanting to get some good shots of the Channel Billed Cuckoos the last few weeks but they keep evading me. I had a flock of them flying around the trees above me while I had a macro lens on and missed them and I've been hearing them at home occasionally too (including being woken by them). This is the only one I have manage to get so far, it flew over my car just as I was parking at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney but was quickly chased off by Noisy Miners. I hope I can mange some more shots while they are still around Sydney.

Towards the end of our trip south through the Lemaire Channel, cloud descended over Booth Island, the light got beautifully soft and this image and the next few were taken. This was shot at nearly 9pm. Most people had gone inside for dinner, and just me and JP (John Paul Caponigro) remained on the top deck of the ship. This isn't everyone's light or conditions, but we both loved it. Eventually JP went down and I was up there alone. It was one of the memories from the trip that will stay with me always.

after 20 years of many and regular travels to Britain this year will be without any journey there. we have cancelled two journeys to Kent and Northumberland although planned and booked for a long time, and we are very sad about this necessary decision.

The Belleisle cable ferry keeps this part of the river open. Some winters, the channel is notably narrower than this!

The Grand Island East Channel Light is a lighthouse located just north of Munising, Michigan and was intended to lead boats from Lake Superior through the channel east of Grand Island into the Munising Harbor. Constructed of wood, the light first opened for service in 1868

The desert is about to bloom. A vast area of outback Queensland is known as the Channel Country. It is an extremely flat and ancient landscape of sand dunes and river channels formed by the movement of water and wind. Yet it more than meets the definition of a desert, averaging only 150 mm annual rainfall, with huge variation year to year. When rain does come it spreads out into myriad ‘braided channels’ that provide moisture and alluvial nutrient to the area.
In good seasons, it provides optimal conditions for running quality beef cattle.
