"Sause Bros. “on-again, off-again” project of rebuilding the tug “Klihyam” has been completed and christened. This hull had been a fixture at SOMAR for 20 years. “We don’t like to rush into things,” explained Dale Sause. The hull was built in 1977 by Halter Marine in New Orleans and Sause purchased it from Halter in 1982 and tandem towed it to Coos Bay, Oregon behind the tug “Roughneck”. It sat moored at the Market Street dock for a time until it was towed upstream to the SOMAR shipyard barge slip. For many years the boat was referred to as the “Hulk” until it was officially named “Klihyam”, after an earlier boat, which sank on the Siuslaw bar. “Klihyam” took a back seat to many other projects over the years as other boats were rebuilt and repowered and new boats built. Around 1993, a committee consisting of both port and boat captains, port & boat engineers, and the engineering department was formed. Their function was to aid in the design of a vessel that would have good handling characteristics, provide a comfortable crew environment and be easy to maintain. Based on these recommendations, the EMD engines and Reintjes gears were ordered in 1998. Props, shafts, nozzles and rudders were ordered in 2000. A new second deck was designed and a trunk for fresh air ventilation fabricated. The old wheel-house was removed and replaced with a more modern one with better visibility. A lot has been accomplished in 22 years. The original “Klihyam” was built in Bandon, Oregon from Port Orford cedar in 1908 and fitted with a coal fired steam engine. She was repowered with a Scandia Pacific 800HP 42 ton diesel in Seattle by the U.S. Army who used her in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. After purchased by Sause in ‘46, she was repowered with an EMD 12-567ATL and gear from an LST landing craft in ‘49. She sank in 1958 off the Siuslaw River Bar after being rammed by Sause’s tug “Natoma”.

I'll take out the flare at some point. I think I'll just de-flare every photo in an intense photoshop weekend in the coming months. I dislike this one because it takes away from the security camera; I wanted that to be one of the mini-attractions in this photo.
So I learned a new trick for this shot. There was a street lamp right above where i took this picture and it was kind of annoying and intense. As I went to lean my bike against it, I accidentally hit it with a bit of force. The light then went dim, and stayed dim for enough time to get the shot. So if there's ever too much light from a streetlamp, just hit that shit, and things should be ok.
This was taken in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. That big EPA plant would be right behind where the camera was.
The Gozo Channel Lines ferry leaving the harbour at Mġarr.
The town of Mġarr grew up around the shallow harbour which shares its name. Ferry services to Malta were in operation by 1241, and fishing was already established. While the area around the harbour was developed over the following centuries, there was little development of the harbour itself until 1841, when a breakwater was constructed to provide more shelter to the port. This breakwater was strengthened and extended several times up to 1906. A larger breakwater was constructed between 1929 and 1935, and two more in 1969; on the completion of the latter, the area of the port was expanded to 121,400 square metres.
The ferry terminal was rebuilt at a cost of €9.3 million in the early 21st century. Work began in 2001 and took seven years, with the terminal opening in February 2008. The harbour now has facilities for around 600 passengers and 200 cars. The design of the new harbour was changed during the construction process to reduce its visual impact on the surrounding landscape.

West of Ushuaia, Argentina, mountains with year around snow and glacier cover are nearly constantly visible from the Beagle Channel. In many cases the ice reaches the water. At this point both sides of the channel are within the boundaries of Chile.
"Beagle Channel is a strait in the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago, on the extreme southern tip of South America between Chile and Argentina. The Beagle Channel, the Straits of Magellan to the north, and the open-ocean Drake Passage to the south are the three navigable passages around South America between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
The channel was named after the ship HMS Beagle during its first hydrographic survey of the coasts of the southern part of South America which lasted from 1826 to 1830. During that expedition, under the overall command of Commander Phillip Parker King, the Beagle's captain Pringle Stokes committed suicide and was replaced by captain Robert FitzRoy. The ship continued the survey in the second voyage of Beagle under the command of captain FitzRoy, who took Charles Darwin along as a self-funding supernumerary, giving him opportunities as an amateur naturalist. Darwin had his first sight of glaciers when they reached the channel on 29 January 1833, and wrote in his field notebook "It is scarcely possible to imagine anything more beautiful than the beryl-like blue of these glaciers, and especially as contrasted with the dead white of the upper expanse of snow."

I have a couple of these Realistic Quatravox units from the 1970s. They convert two-channel stereo into four-channel for a surround sound effect. When these units were out quadraphonic sound was the latest fad, Radio Shack marketed these as a low cost alternative to get into four-channel sound. They require no external power, just a simple circuit with switches and resistors.
