The great thing about The Royal Alcazars of Seville that it is actually still in use by the Spanish King and completely authentic. Stroll in the Alcázar wonderfully through the beautiful landscaped gardens, past all those centuries-old trees, colorful flowers, stately statues, idyllic fountains and courtyards after you have admired the impressive palace. The first stones were laid by the Visigoths, then the Romans, but the Moors then made it really big and beautiful. After the conquest of the Moors by the Catholic Kings in the 14th century, the palace was further expanded, entirely in Mudéjar style The result of the merger of two traditions namely the Islam tradition on the one hand and the Christian tradition on the other. tradition on the other.

There are fifty murals on the façade that refer to the fifty Spanish provinces. In front of it are benches, which are eagerly used. The Plaza de España is a classic place to go with the family on Sundays. The majority of these buildings are used today by the government such as the town hall. The square also served as a film set for Naboo in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.

The Cathedral of Seville was built on the site of the Moorish Mosque of the Almohad. This mosque was conquered from the Moors in 1248 and used as a cathedral. In the 13th century this mosque was demolished on the Patio de los Naranjos - the orange square of which, the minaret of the mosque, the old Giralda tower is still a remnant. In the cathedral you can admire a treasure room, the tomb of Columbus and the main chapel. The most spectacular part of the interior is undoubtedly the golden main altarpiece in the main chapel. This magnificent masterpiece was designed by the Flemish craftsman Pierre Dancart who worked for forty-four years on the reliefs, starting in 1482. The altarpiece was finally finished in 1564 with help from other artists. Large iron grilles, forged between 1518 and 1532, separate visitors from the altarpiece. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world.

Designed and built in 1925 by McWethy & Greenleaf for Robert Howden and his architectural tile shop in a Spanish Baroque / Moorish / Arts & Crafts style. The tile company moved to Piedmont in 1927 but today Howden Building tenant Spice Monkey Cafe has tiled walls, stairs, and a fireplace that were part of the original Howden tile show room.

De Plaza de España is een klassieke plek om op zondag met de familie heen te gaan. Het María Luisa-park herbergt een van zijn meest verborgen hoeken, het beeld ‘Glorieta de Becquer’, een spectaculaire set van liefde. Een plek om te ontspannen, in de zon zitten of genieten van schaduw. Wat betreft flora, beschikt het park over tal van prachtige oude bomen die al honderden jaren oud zijn. Along the wall, 66,000 tiles – made by INAX, a Japanese tile company, which was founded with Frank Lloyd Wright when he designed the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo – are hand laid into 150,000 depressions in the concrete. “Some people say it looks like digital music registration,” Wardle said, “but hopefully it will have many readings.”

This panel of tiles with a geometric-vegetalist pattern, dated between 1590 and 1620 and currently in the National Tile Museum in Lisbon, is an example of Portuguese production of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Composed of repeated modules of stylized floral motifs in blue on a white background, framed by a geometric pattern in ocher yellow, the design reflects Mudejar and Renaissance influences, showing the continuity of the Hispano-Moorish decorative tradition in Portugal. Patterned tiles were often used in the integral coating of church and palace walls, creating authentic ceramic “carpets” and performing decorative and symbolic functions. The chromatic palette, limited to blue, yellow and white, is characteristic of Portuguese production prior to the Dutch influence, establishing itself as a structuring element of Portuguese architecture and a testimony to the creativity of the potteries of the time.

This was requested by my daughter, Heather..it has many meanings. Mosaiced wth broken china, millefiori, stained glass, ceramic crosses, copper ornament, glass round globs, mirrors and lots of love. The base is an old cabinet door and I used charcoal grout...mixed with a colorant into white sounded grout!

The tiles architect Jørn Utzon chose are a major design element in the building.
Utzon spent twelve months developing the tiles with one of the best ceramic factories in the world, Höganäs in Sweden. Inspired by a Chinese tradition in ceramic firing, for a glass-like finish, Utzon worked with Höganäs to develop the tiles which were specifically suited to the building.
Höganäs developed a technique in which the raw tile is painted with a clay slip of the same material and then fired. It is overlaid with a glossy, transparent glaze before it is fired the final time. This gave a beautiful lustre or sheen to the surface that would retain its visual qualities even when the tile became dirty. Over one million tiles were cast into precast concrete lids on the ground, and then bonded onto the ribbed superstructure of the shells.
The ceramic tiles were part of Utzon's plan to preserve the character of the whole building through the ages.
In 1965 Jørn Utzon explained:
"The top surface of the shells are covered with a weatherproof membrane, a series of precast panels matching the rib segments and covered with white glazed tiles. All the materials are non-corrosive, weather resistant, durable, and will age and acquire a patina without changing their character".
The Sydney Opera House has received many awards for its design and construction. These include the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Gold Award to Jørn Utzon in 1973 upon its completion, the United Kingdom Institution of Structural Engineers Special Award in 1973, and a Commemorative Sulman Award in 1992.
In 2003, Utzon received the prestigious international Pritzker Prize for his contributions to architecture and in recognition of his masterpiece, the Sydney Opera House.
"It is important that such a large, white sculpture in the harbour setting catches and mirrors the sky with all its varied lights dawn to dusk, day to day, throughout the year.' - a citation from the American architect Louis Kahn describes the importance of this surface and of the decision to make the surface white.
Jørn Oberg Utzon
Utzon died in Copenhagen on 29 November 2008, aged 90, of a heart attack in his sleep after a series of operations. He had never returned to Australia to see the completed opera house.

There is something for everyone in Andalusia, from culture to beautiful terraces, sights, long beaches, beautiful inland areas with beautiful reservoirs, mountains and nice villages to visit. Seville is the capital of the province of Andalusia. It has a colorful history dating back to the Romans. You will find beautiful historic buildings, but also tapas bars where they serve the tastiest dishes. And of course not to forget the flamenco. In 1929, as part of the Spanish World Exhibition, among other things, the Plaza de España was constructed: a crescent-shaped square with the Pavilion de España situated on it. There are fifty murals on the façade that refer to the fifty Spanish provinces. In front of it are benches, which are eagerly used. The Plaza de España is a classic place to go with the family on Sundays. The majority of these buildings are used today by the government such as the town hall. The square also served as a film set for Naboo in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.

The Cathedral of Seville was built on the site of the Moorish Mosque of the Almohad. This mosque was conquered from the Moors in 1248 and used as a cathedral. In the 13th century this mosque was demolished on the Patio de los Naranjos - the orange square of which, the minaret of the mosque, the old Giralda tower is still a remnant. In the cathedral you can admire a treasure room, the tomb of Columbus and the royal chapel. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. From the Giralda tower you have a beautiful view of the city of Seville.

In de kathedraal zijn o.a. een schatkamer, het graf van Columbus en de Koninklijke kapel te bewonderen. De Virgen de la Antigua is een aanroep van de Maagd Maria. De Maagd wordt afgebeeld met het kind Jezus en een witte roos. Dit prachtige altaar staat in de kathedraal van Sevilla, Andalusië, Spanje.
