For Macro Mondays - Hazard.
Small water puddle on ceramic tile.
Speedlight with grid, low left - speedlight with snoot bounced off small white card from right.
2.5 inches in greatest dimension.
This is an elevator corridor in The Guardian Building of downtown Detroit. Colorful ceramic tiles decorate the ceiling and the marble walls. The stained glass window is lighted from behind with electric lights.
Previous posts (in the first comment below) show the building facade and the entrance lobby. Several viewers have already noticed a significant theme throughout the building.

For the Smile on Saturday challenge: "spoon and fork"
Struggled for a title for this one, though I love shooting the elegant curves and shapes of my Alessi cutlery. They are so shiny and reflect the light. Add ceramic tiles and a bit of sunshine (difficult to find yesterday!) and hopefully some magic happens ;o)
HSoS!! and a great weekend to all ;o)

HMM for everyone - FMM para todos !
The city of Granada has the same name as the Pomegranate. The Spanish word for the fruit is Granada and therefore the symbol of the city, the pomegranate appears throughout the streets as you wander around the city.
Many ceramic tiles are decorated with the fruit.
All over the city are bollards which are topped with pomegranates.
The locals evens decorate their shop signs with Pomegranates
The council make manhole covers with pomegranates on them
And Fire hydrants.
All the street names in Granada are set on Ceramic wall plaques, the Granada symbol is painted on the top of the sign.
This is the kitchen at Heart Castle and my favorite shot of the trip. Loved the light, the brass faucets and the wonderful vintage feel. Happy Monday gang!!
For the "Looking close... on Friday!" challenge "Tasty minimalism"
A friend sent me some new tastes from Japan last week. Their 'sweets' are quite delicate tastes, and less sweet or sugary than we are used to in the West!
This little (one-inch) snack is called Matcha Mochi Monaka. It is described here: "Inside the crispy monaka wafers, you'll find an elegant matcha and azuki paste, providing a balance between bitter and sweet".
Have a lovely, tasty weekend 😊

For the Macro Mondays challenge "Eye of the Beholder" (April 29th 2019)
In the eye of this beholder - a thing of beauty! To others maybe a broken shard of glass that needs to be thrown out. This sliver of broken glass is from a small tube-shaped table lamp. A favourite of mine, made of clear and frosted glass with a touch-sensitive base. So neat and minimal. When it was broken I couldn't part with the actual glass cylinder, which is still in my little studio. It still has beauty in my eyes! ;o)

My white orchid looked somnolent all through the winter ... then decided to spring into life a few weeks ago, and started growing just one long stem!

Andalusia is located in southern Spain and covers an area of 8 provinces. Andalusia is the second largest autonomous region in Spain. Beautiful Andalucía, the land of olives, oranges, sunflowers, beautiful mountain ranges and valleys, nice white mountain villages with beautiful squares, is a bridge between two continents, Africa and Europe, and is the point where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. There is something for everyone in Andalusia, from culture to beautiful terraces, sights, long beaches, beautiful inland areas with beautiful reservoirs, mountains and nice villages to visit. Seville is the capital of the province of Andalusia. It has a colorful history dating back to the Romans. You will find beautiful historic buildings, but also tapas bars where they serve the tastiest dishes. And of course not to forget the flamenco. In 1929, as part of the Spanish World Exhibition, among other things, the Plaza de España was constructed: a crescent-shaped square with the Pavilion de España situated on it. There are fifty murals on the façade that refer to the fifty Spanish provinces. In front of it are benches, which are eagerly used. The Plaza de España is a classic place to go with the family on Sundays. The majority of these buildings are used today by the government such as the town hall. The square also served as a film set for Naboo in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
The Plaza de España is a landmark in Spain located in Sevilla. A "Moorish paradisical style" with a half mile of tiled fountains, pavilions, walls, ponds, benches, and lush plantings of Mediterranean pines. The Plaza de España has been used as a filming location for in the Star Wars movie – Attack of the Clones. The scene of a young Anakin and Padmé arriving at the planet of Naboo, walking over the bridge and through the corridors of the Royal Palace.
Glass was once a rare, expensive and much treasured substance - now it's everywhere and we couldn't imagine life without it! I love glass, especially shooting glass in all its forms. But broken glass can be a real hazard - the shards are so sharp, and can cut you to the bone!
I can't agree with Nick Lowe "I love the sound of breaking glass"

For the Macro Monday challenge "Shadow" (April 13th 2020)
Shadows are such an amazingly rich source of photographic inspiration. And they can be so much more than just the absence of light! There are no shadows without light - just complete darkness. So I wanted to try and show some of the more subtle ways that we experience shadows. Not sure I succeeded ... but I had fun trying! And the sun obliged me by shining on me and my little shoot ;o)
I used a paper base, then ceramic tiles - which I thought would give me the strongest shadows. Then a small blue striped glass paperweight that the sunlight could shine through, making more complex forms as the shadows and reflections bounced off each other and interacted.
I did a small study (not macro) of how the light bounces off objects and creates many kinds of shadows on my Photography blog here Painting with Light if it fascinates you like it does me!
HMM to everyone - take care and stay safe!

For the Macro Monday challenge "Fruit" (10th October 2022)
I decided to go looking in the garden for this challenge. And as the plum harvest is over I looked at rowan berries and crab apples, both of which can make edible jellies. I chose the crab apples, small (about 2cm across) though I admit I haven't ever tried making jelly from them! I prefer to enjoy the lovely white blossom in the Spring! 😊

For the Macro Mondays challenge "Member's Choice - Found in the Kitchen" (October 2nd 2017)
The start of so many of my recipes seems to be "Sauté onions and garlic in butter ....."
I bought some small garlic bulbs last weekend, intending to shoot some macros as it is ages since I last had a good look at garlic. So that made my decision for me! Thursday lunch time the sun suddenly appeared - a blaze of light after so many dull days. I rushed to place a few ceramic tiles in the sunshine, and found I had to tape a light scarf to the window, the sun was so bright! Still, a sudden shaft of light cut across the shot!
HMM! ;o)

Well, sunlight and shade, light and shadows.
The Macro Monday challenge this week is to squeeze into a 3" frame "two things that belong together ... or are improved when paired together". I went through a whole lot of edible ideas (bad for the waistline as mainly they involved cream!) then finally decided to look for ideas that don't only belong together, but are completely inseparable ... which is where I ended up - playing with ideas round "darkness and light".
So this was shot in the early morning light with no added light source - and the curled paper strip measured just under 1" across. At last I had found something I liked, as it also includes other ideas that go together such as - "black and white" - "paper and ink".
And I couldn't resist my all-time favourite for wit and brilliance, Cole Porter.

The Cathedral of Seville was built on the site of the Moorish Mosque of the Almohad. This mosque was conquered from the Moors in 1248 and used as a cathedral. In the 13th century this mosque was demolished on the Patio de los Naranjos - the orange square of which, the minaret of the mosque, the old Giralda tower is still a remnant. In the cathedral you can admire a treasure room, the tomb of Columbus and the royal chapel. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. From the Giralda tower you have a beautiful view of the city of Seville.
Enjoy the most beautiful journey around the most important places of the city of Seville. Travel through the historic city center on a horse-drawn carriage, the most charming transport in Seville. From a traditional carriage you drive past UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as Seville Cathedral and Giralda tower above. But even without a ticket or without a goal, it is wonderful to just walk around or stroll in the center of Seville.
