The Swedish poet Levertin wrote on the Jewish cemetery in Prague:
Lägg icke blommor, band och fransar
på vården över deras ben,
ej livet gav dem gröna kransar
men sten. På vårdarne lägg sten!
If you don't speak Swedish, here's a quick and dirty translation:
Do not put flower-wreaths and ribbons
upon the tombs that guard their bones
Life did not give them flower garlands
but stones. So on their graves put stones!

I thought I would go to the Freidhof cemetery this evening...nice light for shooting. I wound up shooting sepia mostly...I was taken by all the childrens graves here...most of them have a toy or two on the grave, some only a couple of pennies..odd customs we have...I have a daughter...and a grand daughter who's foot would fit, this shoe. I wasn't creeped out...just sad for a change..this is a good place to stop for awhile think.

This is an absurd serie of wondering in the cemetery at All Saints day. A kind of disharmony was the purpose here!
In a senior moment, I left way too early for a 12:15 lunch in Andersonville, so I stopped at Graceland Cemetery and took a few photographs out the car window (it was about 10 degrees) with my cellphone. After spotting the grave of one of my favorite baseball players, I got out of the car to photograph the monument and walk a bit down the road.
Mount Moriah Cemetery, Yeadon & Philadelphia, Pa. Mount Moriah was established in 1855 as one of the first rural pastoral cemeteries in the country. Many famous persons including Betsey Ross were buried there. After decades of neglect the cemetery was officially abandoned in 2011. A group of volunteers formed the “Friends of Mount Moriah” to clear the cemetery of the overgrowth of vines, trees, & weeds that made it unvisitable, maintain & update the records, and work to establishing a legal entity for the cemetery. Abney Park Chapel is a Grade II Listed chapel situated in Europe's first wholly non-denominational cemetery, Abney Park Cemetery, London.
There are better photos of the chapel on Flickr, but I like the way the desolation of the cemetery in February (England's most dreary month) adds to the general feeling of neglect.
The cemetery in Sa Pobla on Majorca - wonderfully designed and maintained by an army of mourners. One heck of a place to bow your head in respect.
Novodevichy Cemetery is the most famous cemetery in Moscow. It lies next to the southern wall of the 16th-century Novodevichy Convent, which is the city's third most popular tourist site.
