Caroline Church and Cemetery is a historic Episcopal church and cemetery and also a national historic district at the junction of Dyke and Bates Roads in Setauket, Suffolk County, New York. The church was built in 1729 and is a three-by-four-bay, heavy timber-framed, 42 by 30 foot building sheathed in wood shingles and covered by a gable roof. It features a 42-foot tower surmounted by a 25-foot spire. The complex also includes the parish house, built in 1905, and a barn built in 1893. The cemetery was established in 1734.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
Mount Moriah Cemetery, Yeadon & Philadelphia, Pa. Mount Moriah was established in 1855 as one of the first rural pastoral cemeteries in the country. Many famous persons including Betsey Ross were buried there. After decades of neglect the cemetery was officially abandoned in 2011. A group of volunteers formed the “Friends of Mount Moriah” to clear the cemetery of the overgrowth of vines, trees, & weeds that made it unvisitable, maintain & update the records, and work to establishing a legal entity for the cemetery. The village cemetery is now full or no longer open to burials. It is an interesting question what you do with a cemetery that is "inactive". Already, this old graveyard is being used as an area of recreation. "Active" are only the living, unless the dead are still working for us, the living, by giving us a space for contemplation. This is the surviving chick and Mom in the Live Oak tree with tons of Spanish Moss hanging down. Precious creatures ...
Usually a quiet place. I say 'usually' because we had a bit of vandalism. The cemetery has also reached the limit of its capacity and soon will become even quieter. Cemeteries can reach the end of their life too. This cross is bit older. Unlike today's religiously nondescript tombstones or those surrounded by the paraphernalia of popular spirituality (angel figurines, toys, plaster cast dogs and teddy bears etc.) this one still shows the Christogram (IHS). IHS means the latinised version of the first three Greek letters of the name of Jesus (iota, eta, sigma). The letters can also be read as the abbreviation of Jesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus Humankind's Saviour) or In Hoc Signo (vinces; you will be victorious under this banner). In general, we could say that this gravestone represents Britain when its adherence to Christianity was taken for granted. 7Artisans manual lens at F1.2.
This is one of the spooky little clearings that you stumble across as you explore.
Highgate Cemetery is a place of burial in north London, England. It is designated Grade I on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England. It is divided into two parts, named the East and West cemetery. There are approximately 170,000 people buried in around 53,000 graves at Highgate Cemetery. Highgate Cemetery is notable both for some of the people buried there as well as for its de facto status as a nature reserve. - Wikipedia

BHF #walkforhearts challenge number 8, a walk into town with a quick visit to mum & dad en-route - that's another 3.37km bringing the total to 72.62km out of 50km!! - Not too bad for a veteran with a dicky ticker.
Surely that's got to be worth a fiver!
Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington, shot with a manual focus Walimex 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens.
This lens is intended for APS-C cameras, on which it produces a rectangular image with fisheye distortion; the effect can be relatively subtle if you keep the lens horizontal.
On a full-frame camera like the R6, it's necessary to remove the lens hood otherwise it's visible in the image. Unfortunately, even without the hood the lens won't produce a fully circular image on a full-frame camera as parts of the circle fall outside the top and bottom of the sensor. There's also a strong blue tinge round the edges of the circle, which of course was never intended to be in the frame.
Old cemetery outside of Eugene. Many of the people resting there started on the East Coast in the early 1800's.
Also, skeletons.
In 1942 the Nazi mayor of Frankfurt ordered the distruction of the old Jewish cemetery. Some headstones survived.
Visited a small 150-plus year old cemetery in our local area. Reading the inscriptions on the tombstones made me feel like stepping back in time. I enjoyed visiting here - it gave me a sense of peace and solace and provide a quiet break from the chaos of everyday life.
