Queen Victoria Country Park - Boer War fatalities - the country park used to be home to a military hospital where the wounded were shipped to.
It's a beautiful place, and I just love the shadows cast from the gravestones.
weird new jersey- a grave from the mid 1700's raised above the movie parking lot. resting in peace?
part of why i'd rather be ashes floating in the oceans of the world
This was a random point of interest for us somewhere between Tavan Bogd and the Khoton and Khurgan twin lakes. I didn't see much of a settlement (none actually) around here.
My grandmother didn't want a funeral and doesn't have a grave, so we took the flowers from the funeral home and put them on graves of relatives. It was surprising how many plots we visited that day.
This has been a classic in the cemetary since I can't remember when. My dad told me that earlier this year someone broke the dog's head off and stole it. The newspaper petitioned for the return of the head and finally it showed up. The dog usually wears a wreath of flowers around it's neck, but there is a leather collar now, that covers up the masonic fracture.
This is an abandoned cemetary deep in the woods down an abandoned logging road. I happened on this while looking for old kaoline mines for fossils. I just happened to stop to take a leak and barely caught an upraised hand in the distance an
d just a hint of a wrought iron fence. This has the grave of Hayden Hughes consort. The writing on the consorts grave stoicly proclaimes that "here lie the remains" and the word consort is plainly visible. What is unusual is that the more ornate grave has a mariners them and religious symbols such as a cross are noticeably absent. The wrought iren posts have somewhat of a cross but given the lack of markings on the tombstones I'm thinking that this was not purposely ordered but rather what was readily available at the time. This is a very peculiar place and it has been calling me for some time to come capture the imagery of this place.
